What I Know
Definitely, there are these indices that proves colonial mentality is still present in us Filipinos
such as patronizing beauty and whitening products from other countries, the mindset of going
overseas for greater opportunities and even pinching babies' noses to make them appear sharper
and a lot more. In my personal opinion, it is all right to patronize these ideas but let us see to
ourselves if these mentalities make sense in the first place. Not to brag but there are some
western ideas that are not worth patronizing for but I guess were all mature enough to define or
assess what makes sense and not.
What's More
"Good Morning everyone, I am Reign Ashby P. Soaygan from Siblong, Bucay, Abra but you can
call me "Eyn" for short. This is the first time that I have heard her voice and upon looking at her,
I know that she is something else. Fierce, serious, reserved and unfriendly, these are my first
impression on this girl. She is that type of person that will catch your attention because she is
charismatic and she got different charm. During the first few days of school, I tried to approach
her but I can't because she already gained a lot of friends who surround her, and I got intimated.
Days passed by, I finally got the chance to talk to her when we are in the same group at our
subject Oral Communication, I am the leader of the group and we are tasked to do a little story
scenario. I see that short period of time as a good opportunity to talk to her and we, together with
my group mates ended up laughing because it is already our turn to perform but we are not yet
prepared. She really proves me wrong of my impression of her as someone who is fierce and
serious but someone who is cheerful and knows how to get along.
One day, our adviser has noticed that our class is getting noisier and noisier each day and
because of that he decided to rearrange our seats not just to apart those who are noisy but also to
have the chance to know each other more. Fortunately, our adviser has assigned Reign to sit next
to me but I never expected how she would react after that. I can see the sadness in her face to the
point where she almost cries. I don't know if it is because she don't like her new seat because
she's apart from her friends or she don't like me as her new seatmate. Days passed by, I tried to
make her comfortable as I can that is I why keep on talking with her to remove all the
awkwardness between us. Together with our another seatmate and also my friend, Unicah, we
began to become close with each other. We started going out together after the school, eat
together during recess and hang out during weekends. Our day in school won't be completed
without laughing and chatting together every minute every second. I really never expected that
from strangers would turn out to friendship that would make our high school life more colorful
and worth remembering.
Despite the pandemic, we still manage to preserve the friendship that we gained. We got to
know each other more and we were able to understand better each other's stories and identities.
We share our problems and we are helping each other to reach our same goal of graduating with
flying colors and to become successful.
