Mechanics of Deformable Bodies

Module 6
Problem Set
Instructions: Solve each of the problem. Write the question, required
value, given, solution and answer in engineering lettering. Illustrate
the problem with the corresponding free-body diagrams and shear and
moment diagrams as necessary. Enclose your final answer in a box.

1. Derive the equation of the elastic curve for the beam loaded as
shown.

2. Compute the location and maximum value of elastic equation curve

for the beam loaded as shown.

3. Determine the value of for the beam loaded as shown.

4. Determine the maximum deflection of the rectangular wood beam

when it is loaded by the two end couples. Use E = 12 GPa
5. The left half of the simply supported beam carries a uniformly
distributed load of intensity 600 N/m. If E = 10 GPa, determine
the smallest value of I that limits the midspan displacement to
1/360th of the span.
