Heartland Business Systems
Heartland is an IT consulting company with thirteen offices stationed around the Midwest of
United States. Their goal is to provide all IT service needs and project implementations for their
customers. This can vary from infrastructure needs both on premises and in the cloud as well as
setting up key services such as backups, server replication, redundancy, and security.
Having been in business since the 1990s, they have seen and worked through most of the IT
landscaped as it rapidly changed with each generation of hardware and software. The people in
management are what’s known as “working managers” who are required to keep their skillsets
sharp as they split their time between management needs and engineering tasks they must
complete. This way, they are on the front lines with their engineers and know what issues are
being faced in real time. Heartland is currently experiencing massive growth due to the
demands of the local areas they service and are looking to hire several dozen engineers over
the next year as well as build several new office locations.
Their track record of high-quality partnerships and accreditations is long and storied. As a
company, they are fully accredited and partnered with 28 different vendors including the
highest tiers for Dell, Microsoft, VMWare, and Cisco.
Being a consulting agency, they are in a highly competitive field. There is no shortage of
companies who are trying to provide the same services to businesses in their areas and
remotely across the country. Their main competitor in my area is IP Pathways, another
consulting agency. While their rivalry goes back several years, more recently IP Pathways has
been losing trust with the local community and Heartland has been stepping in to take those
customers and renew their faith in the local options.
I selected HBS because I’ve known several people who used to work there or currently do and
always have had good things to say about them. I currently work for a large enterprise entity in
their IT department and I’ve been told if I want to rapidly boost my skillset and marketability
then I need to be working in a consulting company. Heartland is the kind of company I should
be striving to work in for my career goals.
