Problem Statement

“How can we design a garden that provides


interactive learning and can be used as an additional
food source for the community?”
Motivation & Background
EDUCATION

Mission:“St. Leo the Great School is a welcoming, inclusive, and

diverse community where students encounter Christ in a rigorous

curriculum designed to educate the whole child”

COMMUNITY

This project will also be a project for the community to build over the

summer and reap the benefits from the produce as it will be used not

only for educational purposes but as a food source as well for the

parish community food drives and school lunches.

Key Results and Completed Tasks

- Week 3: Partner interview and reflection


- Preliminary brainstorming, research, and peak curiosity while in the first few steps of our
collaboration
- Week 4: Team growth and contracts
- Team projects throughout class to bring us closer together as peers in order to work more
effectively together as well as drawing up a set of standards/expectations through team
contract to remain productive moving forward
- Week 5-6: Project introduction, development, and first milestone!
- Lots of researching in and out of class
- Collaboration with rainwater harvesting project
- Field trips to local gardens to view vegetation in our climate
- Second trip to the site for measurements
- Drafts of blueprints

-Need lots of sun -Plant in Spring/summer -Plant in fall for SJ area
-Needs 6-8hrs of sunlight
-Low maintenance because of temperature
-Slightly acidic soil, loosely
-Keep an eye out for lady packed and well drained -loosely packed soil and well
bugs and slugs -Eventually need stakes, drained, slightly acidic
-Weekly water if no rain cage or rail for it to grow -6-8hrs of sun/day
-70F ideal soil Temperature along -plant 2-3 inches apart, 1
