Indonesia-Denmark Energy Partnership (INDODEPP)

Dear Sir / Madam
The Danish Energy Agency, Energinet, PLN would like to invite you to the workshop: “Interconnectors Between
Islands- Benefits and How to Make a Business Case”. The workshop is part of the Indonesian-Danish Energy
Partnership (INDODEPP), focusing on sharing knowledge and experience, between Indonesia and Denmark,
on the integration of renewables in power systems.

The increasing share of Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) is expected to challenge the traditional way of
operating and planning the power system. The Danish TSO Energinet has ample experience in planning and
operating the daily use of interconnectors in Denmark. Denmark has expanded the interconnection to
neighbouring countries through several interconnectors – to Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Germany, with
plans to connect to the UK in the future. Behind every interconnector project is a business case – being one of
the responsibilities of Energinet. The Indonesian power system, moving toward the same path in terms of
integration of renewables, could benefit from Danish experiences on the approach to conduct business cases
on interconnection of power grids. This workshop is part of a series of five workshops covering related topics
on the integration of renewable energy in the power system, namely:

1. Planning for a future grid with a high share of renewables

2. Interconnectors between islands – benefits and how to make a business case
3. How to approach balancing in the system in an effective way – how did Denmark do it while integrating
50%+ in the grid?
4. Deep-dive: system operation and/or balancing: depending on questions from workshop 3 above
5. Wrap-up: agenda to be confirmed. Responding to questions and comments from DGE and PLN

A non-exhaustive list of expected participating institutions includes:

 PLN Headquarters, PLN regional offices
 Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, including DGE electricity
 Energinet, Danish Transmission System Operator
