Weekly Report Four

Activity One

Visited the Office of Village Organization in South Jevali

Objective: To understand the working of different levels of MSRLM bodies.

Description:

 The workings of MSRLM or UMED are handled at different levels. The primary level is
the Self-help groups which comprise of 15-25 women with the exception of the group of
widows and the specially-able people.
 20 of such come together and form a VO (Village Organization or Gram Sangh)
 There are 40 SHGs in South Jevali and 2 VOs.
 We visited one of their offices.
 The meetings of the VO depend upon the necessity and need of the SHGs.

Learning Outcome:

 The VO had created a office in a rented building.


 All the meetings of the both the VOs and the SHGs are held in that one building.
 There is a lack of infrastructure for the VO.
Activity Two

Visiting the SHG that Won the Presidential Award

Objective: To understand the work that the work that this SHG did and what it did to achieve
such prestigious award.

Description:

 We visited the Spurti Mahila Sangh which is a producer group in Southe Jevali.
 This producer group comprises of 21 women from different SHGs.
 These women carry out the business of pulse (Dal) production.
 They received a total of 2 Lakh Rupees from UMED for their business.
 All the activities from running the mill to the packaging of the product is done by
women.
 They sell their product locally in the village as well as in the market at Lohara.
 They received a presidential award for successful running of this all women led business.

Learning Outcome:

 The introduction of UMED has led to financial independence of women of the village to
some extent.
 The women are taking active participation and are in a leadership position.
 They face a problem with unequal distribution of labor.

Activity Three

Visit to Disabled People Households in Toramba

Objective: To talk to them and ask for their consent for interview and talk to them.

Description:

 We visited the house of differently able people and talked to their care-takers.
 The people with disability were not able to talk much and they were looked after by their
family members.
 We had to talk to the family members and get their consent for our work

Learning Objective:

 We were not able to talk with them directly because they had problems conversing with
us.
 They were not under any institutional care.
 They were looked after by their family members.
