Jose Olivares 901 Leopard Corpus Christi, TX. 78401 ‘Adee Hemandez. Nueces County 901 Leopard Corpus Christi, TX. 78401 May 20, 2022 Good aftemoon, When I accepted the position as the Nueces County Fire Marshal, I was eager to work with the Emergency Management Team and help the County grow. Under the direction of Judge Barbara ‘Canales, I felt serving my community would be a top priority which I was ready to do. What I did not expect was to come into a global pandemic that required my role as a Fire Marshal to be halted and serve the needs of other Nueces County departments as well as our community. As a natural public servant, I was ready to serve in whatever capacity was needed. In tur, this has now created friction and has brought up questions of my integrity. My role as the Nueces County Fire Marshal took a back seat to a global pandemic that all of us had to learn to navigate through, none of us knew what to do or how to operate under those “new normals”. As a result, I worked on several different assignments throughout the pandemic, which developed a delay in my certification process. As the rest of the world tried to work through closures and exceptions, I had to work through no classes available which delayed my certification process. This did not alter how I performed as a Nueces County employee. served the County daily in whatever aspect was needed and what duties that were assigned to me by Judge Barbara Canales and the Emergency Management Team. As soon as I was able to resume my role as a Fire Marshal, I did so and began with the tasks that encompass creating a new office. I came into this role as a public servant not someone who would be derailed by political agendas. With this being said, I resign from my role as the Nueces County Fire Marshal effective May 24, 2022 ‘Over the last year and six months, I have truly enjoyed my time with Nueces County. Although I did not expect it to be this brief, unfortunately it has become evident that me nor my services are needed, respected, or appreciated by certain individuals of this Court. This has made coming to work and serving very difficult. In all my professional experience over the years, this has by far been the most difficult that I've encountered and sadly, by individuals who have been elected to serve our community. Id like to take this time to express my sincere gratitude to Judge Barbara Canales for allowing me the opportunity to serve my community, which is my passion. Under your leadership and guidance, I've had a great example of what a true public servant should be. Again, thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Nueces County Fire Marshal. Respectfully, oie
