1. Identify a list of:

(a) obligations we are expected to fulfill:

• Act accordingly

(b) prohibitions we are required to respect:

• Prohibition to discriminate
• Prohibition to harass, bully, abuse
• Prohibition of child labor

(c) ideals we are encouraged to meet:

• Live a meaningful life

ALL OF THESE ARE ETHICS IN NATURE

2. Are clothes a matter of pure aesthetic taste, or does it make sense for clothes to become a subject in
a discussion of ethics? Why? How about other forms of adornment, such as tattoos and piercings?

Clothes is a matter of pure aesthetic taste how a person wear clothes. As of today, clothes became a
subject for discussion, it is a current issue to youth and elderlies. Our generation (youth) tends to
wear clothes that are not appropriate in our age especially teens. We are adapted too much to
western culture where there are no criticisms how a person dress. Here in the Philippines, we have a
conservative culture that elderlies prefer clothes that doesn't show too much skin. It is a concern for
them that showing too much skin may cause women to be harassed or cat-called. But not all women
who show off skin doesn't mean they what man's attention nor to seduce them. It is their body and
they can wear whatever they want. Tattoos and piercing don't mean that a person is a criminal or a
bad person.

3. Look for a newspaper article that tackles an ethical issue. Consider the following questions:
GMA NEWS: Transgender allegedly experienced discrimination at a resort in Davao Del Norte

https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/video/stateofthenation/560949/transgender-nakaranas-umano-ng-
diskriminasyon-sa-isang-resort-sa-davao-del-norte/video/

a. What makes this a matter of ethics?

LGBTQ+ members experienced discrimination because of their sexuality but in fact they are humans
too, they have feelings and emotions. They also have morals and values, they don’t differ to a man
and a woman. It is our obligation to respect and accept a person as long as he/she is not doing wrong.

b. What is your own ethical judgment on this case?

My ethical judgement on this case is: it is not right to discriminate a person if you are against their
behavior or personality.

c. What are your reasons for this judgment?

My reason for this judgement is because I accept LGBTQ+ community members and they are my
friends. And we want to end this stigma.

4. Brainstorm and come up with a list of common Filipino values. Consider the strengths and
weaknesses of these?

• Religious

Strength: Builds faith and change character.

Weakness: Sticks to tradition.

• Hardworking

Strength: Persistent and Flexible

Weakness: Eager to earn money that causes fatigue and depression

• Resilient

Strength: Having confidence in your strengths and abilities.

Weakness: Could make people overly tolerant of adversity

5. Imagine that you are a legislator. What rules or laws that currently prohibit certain acts or practices
would you want to amend or repel? Also, are there certain acts or practices currently permitted by the
law that you would want to prohibit? Think of this on the level of your school, your province and the
nation.
Welfare. Reduction of welfare by 10% per month to offer incentives for claimants to find jobs and support
themselves. No.

6. Comment on this statement: “What I believe must be true If I feel very strongly about it”.

"Believe in your beliefs, doubt in your doubts, but never believe in your doubts."

7. Is looking after the benefit of your own family over all other aspects considered as another form of
egoism? Discuss

Yes, because family is the smallest society. We learn everything from family and helps to develop our
character. And to look after the benefit of your own family over all other all aspects is not selfishness.
