Analysis of theories/models of organisational behaviour and professional collaboration in groups.

During the tutorial, you will be analysing two (2) theories/models of organisational behaviour and
professional collaboration and writing your analysis in a formal report format. The analysis is no less
than 700 words and need to cover the following.

What are the major concepts, strengths and weakness of each theory?

What are their similarities and differences?

How do the theories apply to community services provision ?

How do they apply to professional and collaborative practice in community services ?

A model or theory is a way of explaining things and ideas in a comprehensible manner. Models are a
framework or an explanation for why people behave in specific ways at work. Various models are used
at various organizations. Differences in organizational behavior models substantially contribute to
varying results between organizations. An organization can be categorized into four types based on its
behavior: autocratic, custodial, supportive, and collegial. In this report analysis, we will discuss about
two types of theories: autocratic and custodial theory.

The custodial model depends on economic resources (money). The custodial model is based around the
concept of providing economic security for employees – through wages and other benefits – that will
create employee loyalty and motivation. For instance, managers can simulate their employees by
offering them facilities, and benefits, but in this model the employee’s won’t work as a team (Less
sharing with others) because everyone will depend on his self to get more benefits than the others. The
underlying theory for the organization is that they will have a greater skilled workforce, more motivated
employees, and have a competitive advantage through employee knowledge and expertise. One of the
downsides with the custodial model is that it also attracts and retains low performance staff as well. Or
perhaps even deliver a lower level of motivation from some staff who feel that they are “trapped” in an
organization because the benefits are too good to leave. In this model, employees may focus on
economic rewards. They may be reasonable content, but may not be highly motivated – just passively
cooperative. However, employees do not produce their best work andare not motivated to grow to their
full potential. The custodial model is a good foundation for organizations to grow to the next approach.
