The internship took place at Kingwood Township School in New Jersey. The intern worked with two classes, a second grade class of 20 students taught by Mrs. Mizin, and a third grade class of 15 students taught by Mrs. Markovich. The intern observed in the second grade class and helped students with activities in the third grade class. The intern did a lesson on the book "Little Bear's Special Friend" which the students enjoyed, followed by a craft where they made the bear from the story. Overall, the intern learned a lot from the teachers and enjoyed getting experience from the perspective of a teacher, particularly liking working with the third grade class.

My internship was at Kingwood Township School in Kingwood Township, New Jersey.
I was interning in a second grade and third grade class. The teacher of my second grade class was Mrs. Mizin. The third grade teacher was Mrs. Markovich. Mrs. Mizin’s class has 20 students and Mrs. Markovich’s class has 15 students in her class. The second grade classroom has desks in the middle of the room. On the left of the desks are their cubbies. On the right of their desks inside a small table and radiators. In the front of the classroom is the white board and smart board. To the right of the boards are posters with activities and their schedules. In the back of the room on the right hand side is the reading area. It has shelves against the wall and a carpet in front. There was also a sink on the left wall. To the right of the back of the classroom is the teachers table. There she works with small groups of students at a time. I did different activities in each of the classes. In Mrs. Mizin’s class I would mostly observe since they started off with independent reading and then centers. I would walk around the classroom or sit next to the students while they did other activities. Or some of them would come and sit with me at the back table. I read two books to the class, and I cut our laminated papers a few times. In Mrs. Markovich’s class I would work with the children a lot. She would also come and sit with us and talk to us about teaching. We would help the kids with their work and then go outside for a snack and play with them. My lesson that I did was reading a book and then doing a craft. My book is called Little Bear's Special Friend and is written by Clair Freedman and Dubravka Rolanovic. It is about a bear who goes into hibernation but wakes up too early. Then he makes friends with a snowman named sparkly. They had a lot of fun together and then sparkly had to go to somewhere where it never gets warm. The students were really into it and they were gasping and everything. In the end the snowman came back and they became friends forever. After that we did a craft where they made the bear. The substitute teacher suggested they add the craft to a sheet of paper and draw a background. I went pretty well and turned out good. Overall I really enjoyed this internship. I learned a lot from the teachers and how the classroom runs. It was interesting to see a classroom from the point of view of a teacher. I found out that I really enjoyed 3rd grade, but that could’ve just been because I liked the students and Mrs. Markovich. Kingwood in general was a really good experience and everyone was nice. I’ll definitely miss it at the next school.
