JATAMANSI
Jatamansi
Jatamansi, also known as “tapaswani” in Ayurveda, is a perennial, dwarf, hairy, herbaceous and endangered plant
species. It acts as a brain tonic and helps to improve memory and brain functions by preventing cell damage due
to its antioxidant property. It also calms down the brain and manages anxiety as well as insomnia.
According to Ayurveda, Jatamansi helps in preventing wrinkles due to its Snigdha (oily) nature. It also promotes
wound healing due to its Ropan (healing) property. Taking Jatamansi powder along with honey once or twice a day
helps to improve memory functions. You can also take Jatamansi tablets or capsules which are also readily
available in the market.
Applying Jatamansi oil on the skin helps manage skin infections and prevents aging due to its antifungal and
antioxidant activities. Jatamansi is also good for hair growth as it helps to increase the follicular size and elongate
the growth phase of hair. Applying Jatamansi oil helps to promote hair growth. Jatamansi root paste can also be
applied on hair to improve hair strength and growth[2][3].
BENEFITS OF JATAMANSI
1. Anxiety
Jatamansi is useful to manage the symptoms of anxiety. According to Ayurveda, Vata governs all the movement
and actions of the body and nervous system respectively. Anxiety is mainly due to Vata imbalance. Jatamansi
helps to reduce the symptoms of anxiety. This is due to its property of Tridosha balancing and a unique Medhya
(improve intelligence) effect.
Tips:
a. Take 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of Jatamansi Powder.
b. Swallow it with honey once or twice a day after taking food.
c. Continue for 1-2 months to control the symptoms of anxiety.

Jatamansi helps to manage the symptoms of epilepsy. In Ayurveda, epilepsy is termed as Apasmara. Epileptic
patients experiences episodes of seizures. A seizure is due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain leading to
uncontrollable and rapid body movements. This might even lead to unconsciousness. Epilepsy involves all the
three doshas-Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Jatamansi helps to balance all the three doshas and reduces the episodes of
seizures. It also helps to maintain healthy brain function because of its Medhya (improve intelligence) property.
Tips:
a. Take 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of Jatamansi Powder.
b. Swallow it with honey once or twice a day after taking food to control the symptoms of epilepsy.
3. Insomnia
Jatamansi is useful to induce sound sleep. According to Ayurveda, an aggravated Vata dosha makes the nervous
system sensitive which leads to Anidra (insomnia). Jatamansi calms the nervous system due to its Tridosha
balancing property. It helps in sound sleep because of its unique Nidrajanana (sleep inducing) effect.
Tips:
a. Take 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of Jatamansi Powder.
b. Swallow it with honey once or twice a day after taking food to manage insomnia.
4. Weak Memory
Jatamansi helps in managing the symptoms of memory loss when used on a regular basis. According to Ayurveda,
the nervous system is controlled by Vata. An imbalance of Vata leads to weak memory or poor mental alertness.
Jatamansi is useful to enhance memory and gives instant mental alertness. This is due to its Tridosa balancing
and Medhya (improve intelligence) properties.

a. Take 1-2 Jatamansi tablet.
b. Swallow it with water once or twice a day.
3. Jatamansi Capsules
a. Take 1-2 Jatamansi capsule.
b. Swallow it with water once or twice a day.
BENEFITS OF JATAMANSI
1. Insomnia
Jatamansi oil helps to induce a sound sleep when applied on the crown of the head as well as on the feet.
According to Ayurveda, an aggravated Vata dosha makes the nervous system sensitive which leads to Anidra
(insomnia). Jatamansi oil calms the nervous system due to its Tridosha balancing property. It helps in sound sleep
because of its unique Nidrajanana (sleep-inducing) effect.
Tips:
a. Take 2-5 drops of Jatamansi oil or as per your requirement.
b. Mix with Almond oil.
c. Massage on the crown of the head as well as on the feet before sleeping to manage insomnia.
2. Wound healing
Jatamansi and its oil helps in quick healing of the wound, decreases swelling and brings back the normal texture of
the skin. Applying Jatamansi oil with coconut oil helps in quick healing of the wound and reduces inflammation.
This is due to its Ropan (healing) and Sita (cold) properties.
Tips:
a. Take 2-5 drops of Jatamansi oil or as per your requirement.
b. Mix with 1-2 teaspoon of coconut oil.
c. Apply on the affected area once or twice a day for quick healing of the wound.
3. Anti-Wrinkles
Wrinkles are due to aging, dry skin and lack of moisture. According to Ayurveda, it is due to an aggravated Vata.
Jatamansi and its oil help in controlling wrinkles and increases the moisture content in the skin. This is because of
its Snigdha (oily) nature. It also helps to remove excessive dryness and makes the skin soft and glowing.
Tips:
a. Take 2-5 drops of Jatamansi oil or as per your requirement.
b. Mix with 1-2 teaspoon of coconut oil.
c. Apply on the affected area once or twice a day.
d. Repeat this daily for glowing and wrinkle-free skin.
4. Hair loss
Jatamansi oil helps to control hair fall and promote hair growth when applied to the scalp. This is because hair fall
is mainly due to an aggravated Vata dosha in the body. Jatamansi or its oil acts on hair fall by balancing Tridosha
(Vata, Pitta and Kapha dosha). It also promotes hair growth and removes excessive dryness. This is due to its
Snigdha (oily) and Ropan (healing) properties.
Tips:
a. Take 2-5 drops of Jatamansi oil or as per your requirement.
b. Mix with 1-2 teaspoon of coconut oil.
c. Apply on the affected area once or twice a day to control hair fall.

a. Take 2-5 drops of Jatamansi oil.
b. Add coconut oil to it.
c. Gently massage on the forehead.
d. Use this remedy to control hair fall.
