5G Wireless Network

Brief Description:
5G (from "5th Generation") is the latest generation of cellular mobile communications.
It succeeds the 4G (LA, WiMax), 3G (UMTS, LTE) and 2G (GSM) systems. 5G
performance targets high data rate, reduced latency, energy saving, cost reduction,
higher system capacity, and massive device connectivity. The first phase of 5G
specifications in Release-15 will be completed by April 2019 to accommodate the
early commercial deployment. The second phase in Release-16 is due to be completed
by April 2020 for submission to the (ITU) as a candidate of IMT-2020 technology.
Built for places where people can use their phones at the same time. So you can
stream, share, post and work without being slowed down by everyone around
you when connected.
5G technology going to be a new mobile revolution in mobile market. Through 5G
technology now you can use worldwide cellular phones and this technology also strike
the china mobile market and a user being proficient to get access to Germany phone as
a local phone. With the coming out of cell phone alike to PDA now your whole office
in your finger tips or in your phone. 5G technology has extraordinary data capabilities
and has ability to tie together unrestricted call volumes and infinite data broadcast
within latest mobile operating system. 5G technology has a bright future because it can
handle best technologies and offer priceless handset to their customers.

The terminals will have access to different wireless technologies at the same time
and the terminal should be able to combine different flows from different technologies.
The vertical handovers should be avoided, because they are not feasible in a case when
there are many technologies and many operators and service providers. In 5G, each
network will be responsible for handling user-mobility, while the terminal will make
the final choice among different wireless/mobile access network providers for a given
service. Such choice will be based on open intelligent middleware in the mobile phone.

VIII
➢ Network Layer of 5G Network:

The network layer will be IP (Internet Protocol), because there is no competition

today on this level. The version 4 is worldwide spread and it has several problems such
as limited address space and has no real possibility for QoS support per flow. These
issues are solved in version 6, but traded with significantly bigger packet header. Then,
mobility still remains a problem. There is Mobile IP standard on one side as well as
many micro-mobility solutions (e.g., Cellular IP, HAWAII etc.). All mobile networks
will use Mobile IP in 5G, and each mobile terminal will be Foreign Agent, keeping the
Care of Address mapping between its fixed version 6 address and Care of address for
the current wireless network. However, a mobile can be attached to several mobile or
wireless networks at the same time. In such case, it will maintain different IP addresses
for each of the radio interfaces, while each of these IP addresses will be Care of
address for the Foreign Agent placed in the mobile Phone. The fixed version 6 will be
implemented in the mobile phone by 5G phone manufactures.

The 5G mobile phone shall maintain virtual multi-wireless network environment. For
this purpose there should be separation of network layer into two sub-layers in 5G
mobiles .
i.e.: Lower network layer (for each interface) and Upper network layer (for the mobile
on IP addresses which should be different in each IP network world wide. The
middleware between the Upper and Lower network layers shall maintain address
translation from Upper network address version 6 to different Lower network IP
addresses version 4,version6 and vice versa.

IX
➢ Specifications of 5G Network
• 5G technology offer high resolution for crazy cell phone user and bi- directional
large bandwidth shaping.
• The advanced billing interfaces of 5G technology makes it more attractive and
effective.
• 5G technology also providing subscriber supervision tools for fast action.
• The high quality services of 5G technology based on Policy to avoid error.
• 5G technology is providing large broadcasting of data in Gigabit which
supporting almost 65,000 connections .
• 5G technology offer transporter class gateway with unparalleled consistency.
• The traffic statistics by 5G technology makes it more accurate.
• Through remote management offered by 5G technology a user can get better and
fast solution.
• The remote diagnostics also a great feature of 5G technology. The 5G
technology is providing up to 25 Mbps connectivity speed.

➢ Advantages of 5G Network
• 5G network will benefit not only business person but also the commoners. There
are several new things that will emerge along with 5Gnetwork making it more
reliable and efficient. Here are some of the things we will be benefited with:
• Greater speed(enough to download a movie in few seconds).
• Greater capacity(1,000 times capacity of 4G).
• Reduced Latency(stop delays).
• Provide high resolution and larger bandwidth.
• It will gather networks on one platform.

X
➢ Disadvantages of 5G Network

• Though, 5G technology is researched and conceptualized to solve all radio

signal problems and hardship of mobile world, but because of some security
reason and lack of technological advancement in most of the geographic regions,
it has following shortcomings −
• Technology is still under process and research on its viability is going on.
• The speed, this technology is claiming seems difficult to achieve (in future, it
might be) because of the incompetent technological support in most parts of the
world.
• Many of the old devices would not be competent to 5G, hence, all of them need
to be replaced with new one — expensive deal.
• Developing infrastructure needs high cost.
• Security and privacy issue yet to be solved.

➢ Applications of 5G Network

• It will make unified global standard for all.

• Network availability will be everywhere and will facilitate people to use their
computer and such kind of mobile devices anywhere anytime.
• Because of the IPv6 technology, visiting care of mobile IP address will be
assigned as per the connected network and geographical position.
• Its application will make world real Wi Fi zone.
• Its cognitive radio technology will facilitate different version of radio
technologies to share the same spectrum efficiently.
• Its application will facilitate people to avail radio signal at higher altitude as
well.

What is the difference between 5G and 4G LTE?

5G is the next generation of wireless technology. 5G can provide high speed

(up to 10x faster than median speeds of 4G LTE), low latency and massive
capacity. Just as 3G and 4G enabled new experiences like texting, video
chatting, location-aware apps, high-res photo sharing, and music and video
streaming, we’re just at the beginning of seeing what 5G can do.
XI
Will 5G work on 4G phones?

In order to access 5G service, you’ll need a 5G-capable phone. For 5G Ultra

Wideband service—which is available in select areas—you’ll need to be
inside a 5G Ultra Wideband coverage area and use a 5G Ultra Wideband-
capable device with a 5G Ultra Wideband mobile plan.
To access 5G Nationwide, you’ll need a 5G Nationwide-capable device, which
automatically connects when you’re in a 5G coverage area. Most devices
manufactured in 2020 will require you to download a software update that
adds the 5G Nationwide capability. View list of updates.
To see available 5G-capable Ultra Wideband and 5G Nationwide
smartphones and devices, visit our 5G phones and devices page.

Where is 5G available?

Verizon is constantly expanding our 5G coverage. 5G Ultra Wideband now

covers 100 million people and has been especially deployed in locations
where large crowds may gather so people can stream and share when
connected, like in music venues, sports stadiums, and cities and towns. View
our current 5G coverage map to see what’s available in your area.

XII
1.Unique features of 5G networks.

5G networks provide improved support of machine to machine communication, aiming

at lower prices, reduced battery consumption, and lower latency than 4G
instrumentation. 5G uses Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) networks with higher band breadth
at low energy levels. Band breadth is of 4000 Mbps, which is four hundred times
quicker than today’s 4G wireless.

5G communication networks can also provide hundreds of billions of connections,

massive machine communication, and extreme mobile broadband. Additionally, 5G
offers ultra-low latency of 1 ms, 90% more energy efficiency, 99.9% ultra-reliability,
10 Gbps peak data rate transmission speeds, and a mobile data volume of 10 Tb.

1. The impact of 5G on IoT.

A 2017 CEO survey of 5G potential applications revealed five different services that
could be supported and would come to maturity when commercial 5G networks are
widely deployed. They are highlighted in Fig. 5 (Obiodu and Giles 2017). IoT ranked
second on the list, with 77% of the respondent of respondents believing that 5G
provides broad enablement of IoT use cases. Gartner conducted another survey in 2018
to understand the growing demand .

XIII
Services, Scenarios, and Performance Challenges
As described in Figure 2, the future mobile communication system will penetrate to
every corner of the society and bring us the immersive user experience. To derive the
requirements for the 5G system, the typical service and user demand will be the
mandatory requirements for the 5G, while the typical deployment scenarios will also
bring some bottlenecks to be solved by 5G system, especially from the domestic and
commercial application perspective, for example, the cost and efficiency. This section
identifies the service and user demands beyond year 2020 according to the possible
popular services and user behavior in 5G era and derives the specific requirements of
5G system from the typical usage scenarios perspective.

3.1. Services and User Demands

Mobile Internet is aiming at people-oriented communications with a focus on user

experience. Towards the year 2020 and beyond, the increasing popularity of ultra-high-
definition (UHD) and 3D and video immersion will significantly drive up the data rates.
For example, with a hundredfold compression, the transmission of 8 K (3D) video will
require a transmission rate close to 1 Gbps. Services, such as augmented reality, desktop
cloud, and online gaming, will not only pose a challenge for uplink and downlink data
transmission rates but also generate stringent demand for the so-called imperceptible
latency. In the future, vast amounts of individuals and office data will be stored in the
cloud. Such massive data activity will require transmission rates to be comparable to
optical fiber communications, which will lead to enormous traffic challenges for mobile
communications networks particularly in hotspot areas. Over-the-top (OTT) services,
such as social networking, will be counted among leading applications going forward,
and the associated frequently occurring small packets will devour signaling resources.
At the same time, consumers will continue to demand better experiences on mobile
communications wherever they are. A consistent service experience is expected in all
kinds of scenarios, including ultra-dense scenarios such as stadiums, open-air gatherings
and concerts, and high-speed moving scenarios such as high-speed trains, vehicles, and
subways.

XIV
Conclusion:

5G will be able to sustainably satisfy the requirement of the 1000-time traffic growth.
5G will provide users with fiber-like access data rate and “zero” latency user
experience. 5G will be capable of connecting 100 billion devices. 5G will be able to
deliver a consistent experience across a variety of scenarios including the cases of
ultra-high traffic volume density, ultra-high connection density, and ultra-high
mobility. 5G will also be able to provide intelligent optimization based on services and
users awareness and will improve energy and cost efficiency by over a hundred of
times, enabling us all to realize the vision of 5G, “information a finger away,
everything in touch.”
