Film Festival

Competition - 2022 United Kingdom Student Film Festival

The UK Student Film Festival which celebrates and

showcases the most original, exciting and well
realised short films by the most talented up and
coming film students from around the world.
A cash prize of $100 USD will go to the audience's
favourite film of the festival.

Script

EXT. Two people in a patch of grass playing catch and

talking to one another.

Sam catches ball and throws it back over and over with Jay

SAM gets out his phone to look at an house on their phone

SAM
Oh come and have a look at this, I found some house on
google maps that is abandoned

JAY
What? (confused and walks over)

JAY
Oh let’s go then I’ve always wanted to go to one

SAM
I’m not to sure about that, doesn’t it says its haunted

JAY
Yeah but why does that matter? How would this account know
it’s haunted they just say that to make it sound more
interesting
SAM
Yeah that's probably true, I still don’t want to go though

JAY
Ok well I’m going to go look later today, you are going
with me

JAY
(nervous) Alright fine I’m only going to keep an eye on
you (small laugh) I don’t know what is at the house

EXT. Outside house on road

They are walking outside a house and get near it and one
of them stops the other to point out what house it is.

SAM

(Taps shoulder and points at house) Well here’s the house

ahead. Doesn’t look scary one bit (snarky laugh)

JAY
(Timid laugh) no not really, I’m still unsure about going
much closer.I looked up about this place before we got
here. I’ve now seen too many stories to count about this
place.

SAM
Yeah what about?

JAY
Saying it's haunted with something inside and other weird
things like people didn’t make it out alive.

SAM
Ohh don’t worry those stories are nothing, all just fake
news to scare you. You really think someone went in here
and never made it out?

JAY
Hmm I can’t be too sure with these places

SAM
Trust me there’s nothing bad here, I just want to look
around and see what's in here. Even if something is here I
already know I’ll get rid of it.

JAY
Wait, we are going to look inside as well?

SAM
yes Come on, let's go.

JAY
Urm Fine, but I’m warning you something about this place
isn’t good.

SAM
Yeah there sure is (sarcastically)

They walk towards the house

SAM
Why did we decide to go at night?

JAY
Because I had a takeaway for dinner and wasn’t going to
miss that just to be here with a bit more light

SAM
(shrugs) There's a bit of a problem, how do we get in
here?

JAY
Just push a bit more on the door maybe

SAM pushes more on the door and it doesn’t move

SAM
See it’s not moving

JAY
Alright I’ll give it a go then

JAY pushes the door then falls to the ground through the
door.

SAM
Well you opened the door at least

JAY
Yeah I did, glad there was nothing behind the door, let's
have a look then.

SAM
You got your torch working Jay?

JAY
I think so, I had to find one quickly

SAM
I think mine is good just asked my mum for one and she's
got this

Lifts up big torch to show Jay

JAY
That’ll do,

right let's be cautious

JAY walks over and presses on the light switch

SAM
Well that's not going to work is it?

JAY
It Was worth a shot to be fair, where do you want to go
first?

SAM
Let's look downstairs first. I want to see what this place
has, I don’t want to be here for long but Just walk
carefully tho

Jay and SAM start to walk towards the first hallway and
they hear a light thump upstairs

SAM
You heard that too, right?

JAY
Yes, was that from outside or in here?

SAM
That sounded like it was from upstairs, I really don’t
like it here can we leave

JAY
No, that was probably something old falling

Another thing falls upstairs

SAM
Ok no that was something else, i'm leaving

Sam walks towards the door and tries to open it, starts
pushing the lock up and down and pulling the handle yet it
doesn’t open.

JAY
It won’t open

SAM
Well I think I know that now

JAY
we are going to have to find another way out, just stick
together and look out for something probably

SAM
Sup[rised you are thinking smart

JAY
Ok well there is a door here but not sure if it's going to
open

Jay tried to open it and doesn’t budge

JAY
Well just my luck that the door doesn’t open isn’t it
(looks around) and there is no key

A door slams in another room and they both turn to look

SAM
Ok well what was that I really hate it here

JAY
Yeah this terrible, we are stuck here

SAM
Yes; I’m just going to pretend I didn’t hear whatever that
was, i don’t have any idea where that was

JAY
Right let's just go back this way and look around the
rooms here then

Sam walks after Jay, worried. they get to near the

corridor and something in the room they were in falls
behind them and it scares Sam

JAY
Did you just do that?

SAM
No

JAY
Yeah, (sighs) I really hate this place

They walk into the kitchen and look around the room

SAM
I just wanna leave, I guess this is the kitchen then

JAY
Yeah, or what's left of it. The table doesn’t look in the
best condition

They are looking around and then the utility room door
handle starts rattling

JAY
Why is that rattling now, we need get far from here

SAM
Yeah i'm gonna try the front door again

JAY
i’m joining you

Sam goes to the front door and the door doesn’t open again

SAM
It's still not opening

JAY

Great, I really regret going here now it was just

something fun to look at but it's definitely not

SAM
I guess with the door not opening it’s time to go upstairs

JAY
Yeah, it is

SAM
Well you are going first

Jay walks up the stairs carefully and the stairs are

creaking as he walks up them

SAM
Try these doors up here

Jay tries to open one of the doors and it doesn’t open

JAY
Well there’s another door closed
Jay walks towards the middle room and the door opens,

JAY
Well at least one door is open

He walks in then moves around his light to see if anything

is in the room and then walks out

JAY
Shame there is nothing there

A plate smashes downstairs, they both look to see anything

and nothing is there. Sam turns around to try and open the
other doors and they both don’t open

SAM
Well these doors don’t open does that mean we are going up
there

JAY
I think so, there might be something good up here. Just
got to hope even more now, you first this time

SAM
Fine

Sam walks up the ladder slowing keeping an eye out for

what's around him

SAM
It's just boxes

JAY
Well it's worth both looking around as there isn’t
anywhere else to go now

SAM
Yeah I guess so

Sam waits for Jay to climb the ladder then to both look
around, jay gets up and they go towards a corner where
there is a laptop and has something on the screen

SAM
Come have a look at this

JAY
It’s a computer

SAM
Well yeah but it's a bit odd that its plugged in

JAY
Well just open it then

Sam opens the laptop and the screen turns on, there is one
film that says click here

SAM
Urm “Click here”

They watch the video and question it

JAY
You aren't safe, leave while you can, you aren’t safe.

JAY
What is it talking about?

Turn around; what?

JAY turns around and to not see Sam next to him

Wait Sam where are you;

He gets up slowly to have a look around the loft

Sam; hello, don’t try and hide now, it's not funny; Sam!?

JAY keeps looking around the loft to see if he’s behind

anything then you can hear from the laptop a duct tape
sound from the laptop, Jay then walks back over

JAY
Wait Sam, hello. What's happened

He then watches Sam get sellotaped

JAY
No stop, please

Jay holds on to the screen with two hands and a weapon

sound can be heard then he watches the screen as blood
goes over it.

He then closes the laptop lid down and sits there for a
second then moves off quickly.

Jay goes down the loft ladder and slowly walks around the
top floor then down the stairs he walks in the hallway and
then a hand grabs him over the mouth and then he falls
down and the scene ends with struggling for air.
