Autism Delaware Hosts First Annual Walk-Race for Autism

Weekend-long event in New Castle and Sussex Counties will raise money for Delaware families affected by autism

NEWARK, DEL., January 12, 2011 Autism Delaware will host the first annual Walk-Race for Autism on April 9 and 10, 2011. This statewide event will take place in New Castle County on April 9 and in Sussex County on April 10. The Walk-Race for Autism combines Autism Delawares Walk for Autism with the former Lower Delaware Autism Foundations Race for Autism as a result of the June 2010 merger of the two organizations. Its extremely exciting that Autism Delaware can now host this weekend-long event that will be accessible to people in any part of the state, said Lisa Albany, Walk-Race for Autism chair. I hope that we can get even more individuals involved and raise even more money for Delaware families affected by autism. This years goal is to raise autism awareness and $175,000 to serve people and families affected by autism throughout Delaware. The April 9th Walk for Autism at Bellevue State Park in Wilmington includes a two-mile walk beginning at 11:00 A.M. with registration beginning at 9:00 A.M. The April 10th Walk is a 5K through Lewes, beginning and ending at Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant. Registration opens at 6:45 A.M., and the Walk begins at 8:15 A.M. There will be a post-event celebration with food, music, and family activities at each site. All participants are strongly encouraged to fundraise for Autism Delaware; prizes will be awarded based on individual

fundraising success. Teams and Walkers can sign up for either site at www.delautism.org. Those wishing to Race for Autism can sign up for the Lewes sites April 10th half-marathon or 5K. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers, and runners raising funds for Autism Delaware are also eligible for fundraising prizes. Autism Delaware is now welcoming corporate sponsors to participate, with sponsorship levels ranging from $150 to $10,000.
