TEST REQUIREMENTS
This test is designed to verify that the container, parachute and attachment point will survive the deployment from the rocket
1
payload section which can be very violent.
The release mechanism will be tested to verify it can hold the science vehicle in the container. Component mounts and battery
2
mount will also be tested.
3 Test requires a 61 cm non-stretching cord.

4 The test should be developed with a 1/8th of an inch thick kevlar cord.

5 The drop test should generate about 30 Gs of shock to the system.

DROP TEST SETUP

1 To perform the drop test one end of a 61 cm long non-stretching cord was secured with an eyebolt to the ceiling.

2 The other end of the cord was tied to the parachute shroud lines, attached to the cansat.

3 Payload release through thread cutting mechanism, and parachute deployment were tested and verified.

4 Functional tests, and visual inspections were performed. 3

Thermal Test Configuration
TEST REQUIREMENTS

1 This test is to verify the CanSat and container can operate in a hot environment.

2 This test will determine if any materials warp, weaken, change characteristics, or fail to function at temperatures up to 35C.

3 Requires a method to heat the CanSat to 60OC for a period of 2 hours.

4 This will allow the components to rise to heat, and verify that they continue to function.

THERMAL TEST SETUP

1 A heat chamber was made using 5 ply cardboard boxes.

2 A heat coil and a fan were used to heat the chamber and the hence the CanSat upto 60OC through forced convection.

3 The cansat was kept in a box and its temperature was monitored using a thermocouple and an LCD arrangement.

4 Functional tests and visual inspection was performed. 7

TEST REQUIREMENTS
This test is designed to verify the mounting integrity of all components, mounting connections, structural integrity, and battery

connections.
2 Test requires the sander to be cycled regularly over a one minute duration exposing the CanSat to vibrations from 0 Hz to 233 Hz.

3 The amount of shaking generated by the sander is around 20 to 29 Gs.

4 Do not use a disc sander that just spins.

VIBRATION TEST SETUP

1 The cansat was secured on the random orbital sander with the help of zip ties

2 The sander is spun from minimum to maximum orbits per minute

3 Zip ties ensure that the cansat is secured to the sander while it experiences upto 29Gs of shock.

4 Functional test, and visual inspections were performed

Vacuum Test Configuration
TEST REQUIREMENTS
1 This test is designed to verify deployment operation of the payload.

2 A vacuum chamber should be be constructed using a bucket or pail of 5 gallons or 18+ litres.

3 A lid should be used or a ¼ inch or 6 mm thick sheet of polycarbonate should be placed on top of the bucket.

4 Acrylic must not be used as that may shatter.

5 A vacuum cleaner or shop vacuum should be used to pull a vacuum.

VACUUM TEST SETUP

1 A plastic container with a wood frame was used to create the vacuum chamber.

2 A vacuum cleaner was connected to a valve. The valve ensures that the air pressure is increased gradually.

3 A rubber gasket was used to seal the vacuum chamber. The wooden frame reinforces the set up.

The air was pumped out from the chamber. Then, gradual flow of air was allowed back in, and the release mechanisms were
4 tested. 15
