What is Merchandizing audit?

The Merchandising audit assessment is an overt (openly announced) assessment.
You are required to announce your presence to the Store Manager or site staff and proceed to
undertake the “merchandising” part of the visit.

What store are you auditing? What is an Apple Authorized Reseller?

An Apple Authorized Reseller store is not owned by Apple. Instead, it is an independent business
which has obtained permission from Apple to sell Apple products exclusively as an authorised
reseller.

What is your role?

GBW expects that contractual work will be performed in a professional manner. GBW reserves the
right to evaluate each Auditor and will respond appropriately to substandard work performances.
GBW is fully committed to safety compliance in all of its operations and often exceeds regulatory
performance requirements in implementing best management practices. It is the expectation, that
all Auditors abide by this commitment and follow all safety policies in the respective Countries.

Whilst you are on site or undertaking work for GBW, GBW will not tolerate the following:
 Consumption of, or being under the influence of, alcohol or drugs
 Aggressive or abusive behaviour such as threatening gestures or actual violence or assault
Profane, sexist, racist or otherwise offensive language
 Unsafe work practices or behaviour which may harm the staff member or others
 Offensive gestures and behaviour
 Stealing or misuse of site resources

Auditor Presentation
In the same way that it is important to Apple that their sites meet appropriate presentation
standards, it is equally important that the Auditors who go out to visit the sites meet appropriate
professional standards.
These standards include:
You need to be neatly and appropriately dressed in “business casual” clothes.
Shorts, jeans, t-shirt, etc are NOT acceptable.
You must wear closed toe and comfortable shoes (no sandals)

Any unprofessional behaviour could result in Auditor to be suspended or instant dismissal.

Photos
Once the assessment part of the visit commences, auditors will be required to take a number of
photos while they are on site.

Please make every attempt to exclude customers from the photos. We understand it may be difficult
to take a photo without including a customer’s face so please politely advise the customer(s) that
you are undertaking a presentation audit for the store and need to take a photo, allowing the
customer the opportunity to move away so they are not photographed.

Photos must attempt to provide a “clear view” of the elements to be assessed. That is, photos
should be taken from a reasonable distance. If necessary to illustrate an issue, a closer photo or one
using a zoom, can be taken. If you have difficulty capturing a full object into one image, take multiple
photos of the object.

Mandatory Photos
Some questions require mandatory photos and these must be taken according to specific standards.
They are identified in this manual with this icon:

The required standards are outlined and there are examples of what the photo needs to show and
what is instead irrelevant or not acceptable.

Photos for non-compliance

Some questions require photos when non-compliance with the planogram or other issues are
observed. They are identified in this manual with this icon:

For any non-compliant element or issue, you are required to provide 2 photos:

1st photo: Zoom-out, from a distance of about 2 metres - to show where the object is located.

2nd Photo: Zoom-in, to clearly identify the issue.

For Cleanliness and Condition photos:

Please make sure to add a close up photo of any signs of dirt beyond daily wear and tear and
noticeable marks, cracks or scratches. If from the photo the issue is not clearly visible, use a second
object as comparison:

o For dust, use your finger to wipe on the dirty area so that you can take a photo to clearly
show the dust issue.

For Demo units – incorrect model/colour (Section D of the questionnaire):

Please make sure to add a close up photo of the back of the demo unit to show the model/colour non
compliant with the planogram. As demo units could be in a different position on the table compared
to the design on the planogram, make sure you check all demo units accurately for model/colour
combinations.

You are required to bring a copy of the Planogram (Merchandising Guide) with you and assess
merchandising and graphics present in store against it.
It is important for you to understand ‘how-to’ assess and to be familiar with the planogram
(Merchandising Guide) in order to assess sections C. Graphics and section D. Product display
correctly.

Step 1: Observe the store displays and identify the Fixture Type.
(I.e. Product Table, Wall Bay, Caseline, Merchandiser)

Step 2: On the Merchandising Guide, identify the correct fixture representation for the fixture in
store. Consider both the length of the fixture and the demo units displayed.

Step 3: You are required to assess the merchandising compliance of demo units and graphics/signs
displayed in store against the Merchandising Guide.

Upon arrival, introduce yourself to the Apple salesperson (iPro staff) or the Store Manager.
The manner in which you introduce yourself to staff and ask them questions is important. You must
be polite at all times. You may be given a ‘visitor’ badge to wear at all times whilst on site.

Present the Letter of Authorization and your Identification ID.

Confirm with the staff that you are at the correct address as listed on the cover sheet of your audit
paperwork.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
*If the Store Manager, Supervisor or Salesperson has any concerns or hesitation in allowing you to
evaluate the site, please invite them to contact the Apple representative. If they are still not happy
to do this or won’t let you proceed with the audit, please politely thank them for their time, leave
the store and contact GBW or the agency immediately providing as much information on your
experience as possible. Under NO circumstances are you to engage in an argument with the store
representatives.

*If the store representative requests to accompany you (as an auditor) during the visit, you are to
accommodate their request, but do not allow your observations to be influenced by the salesperson.
However, if an observation is reported incorrectly by you and the salesperson points this out, then
you may consider this feedback if you agree that the salesperson’s feedback is correct.
