AL Activity: CAT –Directed paraphrasing

Summarize or paraphrase the concept of muscle activity. You will be given 5 minutes to paraphrase the
said concept. This can be done as a written or oral activity. After, the activity your teacher and or a
group of students (as an audience) will rate your output as (E-Excellent, Satisfactory and N- Needs
Improvement)

Muscle tissues are derived from the mesodermal layer of embryonic germ cells in a process known as
myogenesis. There are three types of muscle, skeletal or striated, cardiac, and smooth. Muscle action
can be classified as being either voluntary or involuntary. Cardiac and smooth muscles contract without
conscious thought and are termed involuntary, whereas the skeletal muscles contract upon command.
Skeletal muscles in turn can be divided into fast and slow twitch fibers. The main activity of muscles is to
contract or shorten, making movement possible. There many things that muscles can do.
