 Why is operations management important in CDS ?

Answer:

Operations management is that aspect of business administration that encompasses

planning, implementing and supervising the production of goods and services to
maximize efficiency and success. It includes resources and inputs from people,
equipment, technology and materials, which convert into effective output for both
daily and strategic levels within an organization.

 3 core functions:

1. Marketing function
2. The product/service development function
3. The operation function

Operations management is vital in CDS if they're to continue being one among

Europe’s most profitable home ware businesses. As with the other company, CDS
objective is to feature value to their final product while using its resources effectively
and efficiently through its internal processes. The company has successfully been
ready to apply the technology utilized in the region sector onto home ware items,
through the mastering of injection moulding machines. Moreover, the company has
expanded into a premium home ware product market, integrating new functions
within its operations, such as forming partnerships with reputable designers and
increasing the volume and complexity of its production. After reading the case study
it has been analyzed that Concept Design System (CDS) wants to add value to its end
product. Adding value to the top product are often done when the resources are
utilized in an efficient also as efficient manner. It has been highlighted within the case
study that, CDS has evolved from aerospace industry to the house ware items. This
has been practiced by consumption so far technologies like the utilization of molding
machines, etc. The organization has expanded it self thereby adding new products as
well as integrating the new functions along the various types of operations such as
partnering with the reputed designers which would help to increase the levels of
volume & ease the complex process of production. Concept Design Services (CDS) to
excel within the future years shall focus upon operations management at both strategic
also as an operational level. The importance of an equivalent has been discussed
during this section of the essay.

 What would you recommend to the company if you were asked to advice on
improving its operations?

Answer:

There are two different areas that CDS must improve. The connection between its
designers and other parts of the corporate and a far better forecasting of sales. For the
primary challenge, it seem that the designers don’t get to spend enough or any time on
the floor of the corporate , that is, they are doing not have an thorough understanding
of the manufacturing processes and therefore the way they're suffering from their
deciding . Perhaps if they might spend a while doing cross training they might get a
true idea of the manufacturing processes and will implement this data into their artful
activities, in other words, both departments should have a far better collaboration.

The second challenge is improving the sales forecast. Once again there seems to be a
resistance of cooperation between the marketing and operations departments of the
corporate . As above, it might be suggested that both department managers and key
personnel should cross train so as to know the ‘way they are doing things’ and
therefore the reasons behind them.
