 Who We Are
The National Accreditation Council—Guyana
(NAC–G) is the external quality assurance agency
for higher education in Guyana.
NAC - G was established in July 2004 by the
National Accreditation Council Act # 12 of 2004.
This Act requires that all post secondary and tertiary
institutions operating in Guyana be registered.

The Core Services
In the promotion of the quality and standard of
education and training in Guyana, the NAC–G
provides five (5) services:
1. Programme Approval
2. Registration of Institutions
3. Accreditation
4. Recognition of foreign qualifications and
awarding bodies
5. Equivalency of foreign qualifications
Programme Approval
To ensure that quality education is delivered, the
NAC–G ensures that educational programmes are
appropriately designed and structured, adequately
resourced, consistent with the institution’s mission and
vision has stated learning outcomes and assessment
strategies that are set at an appropriate level for the
qualification awarded.
REGISTRATION OF
INSTITUTIONS
All post secondary and tertiary level institutions, local
or foreign operating in Guyana must be registered by
the Council.
This mandatory process certifies that the registered
institution has the capacity to offer quality education
in Guyana.
Registration is a license for an institution to operate
and a prerequisite for accreditation.
ACCREDITATION
Accreditation is the status granted to an
educational institution or programme which
has met or exceeded stated educational quality
criteria.
The process of accreditation provides public
confidence in the education and training provided
by an institution.
RECOGNITION OF FOREIGN
QUALIFICATIONS AND
FOREIGN INSTITUTIONS
The aim of recognition is to certify that minimum
requirements are met for the delivery of foreign
post secondary and tertiary education and
training programmes through partnership
arrangements with local institutions that have
been registered by NAC–G
EQUIVALENCY OF FOREIGN
QUALIFICATIONS
A Statement of Equivalence advises on the
comparability of recognized qualification in
foreign countries
Equivalent qualifications can allow you to gain
entry to further study in Guyana and may even
earn you credits.
