Chapter 1- THAT'S ART, SO WHAT?

ACTIVITY 1.
Research for a local art and culture center in the Philippines, it may be a pottery –
making place, a local gallery, school exhibit, a cultural event, a museum or local crafts
store. Provide a picture and a brief description or give details of the place below the
picture, and answer the following:

1.What did you see? Enumerate 5-10 things that were most notable in the place.

ARTWORKS- it was an eye catchy UNEARTHED PIECES- an artwork that

 2.Describe the place. How did it waken your senses? Dis you feel relaxed,
excited,curious or intrigued, ? Why?

 When I Research a local art and culture , I was amazed and feel relaxed because it's my
first time to see that kind of place in which it is very historical. I saw a lot of things that
reminds me the time when our country colonize by other countries. I fell relax because
the old thing bring me back today. The old house when you see it very piece full. And the
church is very nice is made in stone and native material that kind of view can make me
feel happy.It was deeply moving to see the vast storehouse of our province’s ancient glory
and it has left a lingering impression on my mind. It made me feel like I’m totally in
different world and I think I would consider it as one of my escape from reality
3.When dis the local center started? What is their purpose of it? Why do they keep
it?

 They preserve this place because it is very historical and they continue to renovate it
because they don't want to lose the beauty of the place in which it is very memorable in
Philippine History. And the industry of making art or other cultural materials was present
in their respective places because those art and material serves as a trademark and a
pride for their place and as well as their culture. Commonly those art industry started
when a certain culture and tradition was discovered and applied. And lastly, the reason
why they do it and keep at it, it’s because it became a part on their culture and it plays a
significant role on preserving the culture.

ACTIVITY 2.
Observe Francisco Goya’s Third of May 1808,Compare and Contrast with Juan
Luna’s Spolarium, discuss the possible interpretations of the painting.

Analysis:

1. What kind of event is being portrayed in the paintings? What emotion/s are the
artists trying to evoke? For what reason?

 It is a tragic event in which we can see in the paintings. For me it is anger, because as we
can see soldiers are abusing the people
ACTIVITY 3:

APPLICATION

As an individual who has gone through a specific set of experiences, what kind of art would you make? What do
you want to share to others? What do you want to awaken in them? Is there something you would like to
remember? Or would you like your audience to just take pleasure in the aesthetics of what you have created?
Remember, there is neither right nor wrong answer artistic interpretation (can be made or captured e.g., photo).
The goal is to express something of relevance to you as a person (even your artistic taste) in a visual form.

best represents your answer to the guide questions above.

In the first box in which i draw a tree using my left hand because I always used my right
hand, when i draw a tree using my left hands it was difficult because I’m not used to it,
it reminds me my challenges last year that i already surpassed in the help of my family.
Second box, it reminds me that you should go with flow wherein you should be careful
now and cling to people always got your back. Third box, it reminds me that life must go
on, continue what have you done and take your challenges as inspiration. Lastly, no
matter how dark is your past, there will always someone who will put colors in your life.
