Antimicrobial susceptibility testing of significant bacterial isolates is an essential role of the
clinical microbiology laboratory. Antimicrobial susceptibility is a test used in identifying which antibiotics
a specific bacterium or fungi is resistant to. This test is usually used in combination with a Gram stain
and culture. The findings of which can be acquired significantly more quickly. Antimicrobial susceptibility
tests can help doctors choose the right drug and dose for hard-to-treat diseases.

There are several importance an antimicrobial susceptibility testing have. First, it is helpful on
the prescription of effective antibiotics and for the determination of patient-specific treatment and
epidemiological resistance monitoring. Lastly, we all know that antimicrobials are a very valuable
component in modern medicine. Their progress has supported technological advancements in
cancer therapy, transplantation, and surgery, as well as remarkable reductions in contagious disease
mortality.

2. Describe the procedure of antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
