GROUP 9 - CAREER DAY REPORT

Companies visited: VinAI, SSI, Techcombank, Viettel, VinFast, Siemen Heathineers

1. What sorts of AI skills should a business graduate have to be hired by

the companies?
We believe this question should be reframed in another way. As a Viettel representative
said: “Don’t just focus on AI, as it is merely a domain amongst many others.” Instead of
concentrating on AI, a better strategy is to try to learn and develop our skills in technology at
large, which encompasses not only AI but also many other important areas such as
Blockchain. This would give us a comprehensive development.
However, these skills, whether about AI or general technology, are just plus points for job
applicants. This means applicants may get an upper hand with these skills, but they are not
required. A VinFast representative told us that at his company, AI skills are only needed for
technical positions such as engineers. He shared that people who work in business do not
deal with AI too much, and basic knowledge and skills in AI can totally be learned along the
way, so technical skills are typically not expected from business graduates at VinFast.
On the other hand, most of the companies we visited agreed that what matters more is not
the skills but the attitude and mindset one has with regards to technology and AI. SSI
representatives stated that a business graduate should be proactive in learning and updating
about the advanced technology and AI in the market in order to incorporate these
technologies in the business context (either in the form of a product or a management tool).
People from Techcombank concurred, adding that being open-minded and adaptable to
changes, especially from disruptive technology, is highly appreciated in job applicants.
“These attitudes would facilitate your working with engineers and help you navigate a fast-
changing business world with so many emerging technologies,” a Techcombank
spokesperson noted.

2. What kinds of roles do employees conducting AI related work do in

the company (distinguishing between R&D and production, etc.)?
It is easily assumed that AI engineering and product development have the same roles, but
actually, it has a slight difference. AI employees mainly are responsible for the inner
mechanism application of products in reality while production accounts for selling to the
customers.
There are some job descriptions that an AI engineer should do. The first should be
mentioned first is research, and creating original models for AI products. In this step, AI
workers could coordinate with other departments such as product development, and
marketing to complete or add some novel functions for products that satisfy the desire of the
market. Simultaneously, training AI machines, which is teaching these analyses. To be sure
about the effectiveness of the inventions, they also need to follow and write reports, and
assessments when launching any technical items. As information that I have gained during
the interview with the representative of Siemens Healthineers, she said that some AI
machines such as Digital Twin, and AI RAD Companion Chest CT were made and
developed by the AI team.
The duty of product development to the production department is to research the market,
competitors, and customers to understand the demand and affordability for the products. By
doing these processes, the product developers can provide service packages that bring the
most benefit to the companies. Apart from that, they also combine with the R&D department
to prepare materials for users that are related to the products. Take the products of Siemen
Healthineers as an example, the interviewee informed that giving instruction guides and
gaining feedback from the buyer was done by the production team.
However, if the scale of business were not large enough, the performance of R&D and
production could be merged.

3. What sorts of AI systems can the companies use/develop and already

have in product or service delivery, and internal management of the
companies?
(1) Vinfast:
The AI systems are mainly used in developing the product: automatic driving systems. For
Vinfast, at the moment, cars can support the driver with changing lanes, and in the future,
Vinfast will provide cars that can drive by themselves without any human support.
- Surround-view machine
“The car will have 4 cameras in 4 corners, AI systems can provide the driver with 360
degrees pictures of that car. If there are obstacles nearby, the car will warn you to avoid
accidents.”
- Automatic driving monitor
Automatic driving to the sidewalk and stopping the car when finding the driver closing eyes
for 3-4 seconds.
(2) SSI:
- AI scanning robot
The AI will be optimized for reading articles as well as analyzing data related to companies
listed on the stock exchange. AI will be integrated to consider also to assess whether this
article is heading in a positive or negative direction to be able to make a long/short decision
on the company's stock.
Support: recruiting personnel with too many applications. This can help businesses minimize
time as well as filter out most candidates who cannot meet the company's requirements.
- Trading AI robot
These robots will learn about the patterns that traders often do to make decisions on behalf
of humans about what orders should or should not be entered.
(3) Siemens Healthineers:
- Digital Twin
Digital twins have been and are being used in other industries to optimize production
processes, and work and machine models. SH applied the concept of digital modeling to the
human organs and their processes.
- AI RAD Companion Chest CT
Scientists have created basic algorithms based on extensive clinical data sets. Using chest
CT images, AI RAD Companion Chest CT software can distinguish different structures of the
chest, highlight each structure, and mark and measure potential abnormalities.
- Under development: Using AI in diagnosing breast cancer- Hanoi Medical University
Hospital and the Transboundary Radiology Association
4. What are the AI systems the companies want to develop in the future
to transform and innovate their businesses?
With the present objective of AI apps being to minimize time usage and do repetitive work for
humans in a more effective manner, many organizations have decided to cut human-capital
on some minor chores and have AI do it for them. Saigon South Investment, a securities firm
with whom I spoke, stated that they are currently developing an AI capable of reading
investment, economic, and political newspapers in a matter of milliseconds and determining
if the news is good or negative for the market or the companies. The programmer will merge
two lists of words: positive and negative, each with a weighted scale. For example, a
decrease in profit (negative) and a decrease in interest rate (positive). This was intended to
assist the corporation in scanning hundreds of newspapers every day in just a few minutes
and making trades before any individual investors or traders were able to react to the news.
In other words, they want to use AI to stay one step ahead of the competition in the financial
market. In fact, SSI predicted that scanning AI would become increasingly popular in the
future when several multinational corporations successfully adopted this technology in their
job application process to sort through thousands of applications for job vacancies. The
programmers will train an AI how to analyze an application based on years of experience,
accomplishments, and projects, and compare whether or not the candidates meet all of the
conditions established by the companies.
