Procedure: Introduction/Motivation:

Imagine that you are abducted by friendly aliens and taken to another planet. Now you are in a place where you cannot
understand what the aliens are saying to you, and you cannot communicate with them either. Now, imagine that these
friendly aliens are your family and the distant planet is a foreign country such as Spain or Argentina.

Step-by-Step Plan: 1. Teach the verbs needed to form the sentences (Gardner: Verbal/ Linguistic)

In Spanish, we use the verb “llamarse-to call oneself” to say our name. The verb reflects the pronoun because it literally
translates to “I call myself… and you call yourself…” Llamarse-to call oneself

Yo me llamo, nosotros nos llamamos, Tú te llamas, Él se llama, ellos se llaman.

Asking Someone Their Name

¿Como Te llamas? What is your name-?

¿Como se llama? What is your (formal), his, her, name?

Stating Age

In Spanish, we use the verb “tener-to have” to state age. The literal translation means “to have ________ years.”

Tener-to have

Yo tengo, nosotros tenemos, Tú tienes, x Él tiene ellos tienen

He is married to Mary Taylor. She works in a bookshop. Mary likes books and reading. She
is from Brighton, a town in the south-east of England. They love the sun, swimming in the sea
and travelling with their three children. Their names are John (6), Peter (13) and Rose (14).
They were born in Manchester.
Last summer they travelled to Italy by plane. There they rented a car and toured Italy for
three weeks. They stayed in small hotels. They visited some famous towns: Milan, Rome, Pisa,
Venice... They saw interesting places, took lots of beautiful photos and talked to lots of people.
They always ate Italian food. They ate pizza in Rome and bought delicious ice cream in
Florence. They swam in the Adriatic Sea. In Venice they drank coffee with milk and listened to
music. When they came back home they were tired, but very happy.
