I. INTRODUCTION
Simple curve is one of the types of curves under the study of Fundamentals of Surveying II. A
simple curve consists of a single arc that connects straight lines including constant radius that extends
from the tangent to another, simple curve is also considered less complex. Laying out does serves as a
guide, it is a way of transferring a design to actual land. Marks and points were stationed along the
road.
II. OBJECTIVES
To layout simple curve using the total station.
Use basic skills and knowledge to transfer dimensions from layout plan to ground using
total station
III. MATERIALS
Total Station
Tripod
Pole with Prism
Tape Measure
Marking Pin
IV. PROCEDURE
i. Setting up the total station.
a. Look for a site to put up the instruments that will function as the
station PC.
b. Set up the tripod once you've discovered a decent spot and make
sure the level of height is appropriate for the surveyor's height.
c. Stamp the tripod and check that the top is level before tightening the
three locking screws.
d. Install the total station on top of the tripod, support it with your
hand, and then lock it.
e. Place the battery in the total station and use the leveling screws to
level the bubble.
g. Conduct electronic levelling and make sure to put the bubble at the
center.
ii. Set up the pole and the prism.
iii. Measure the height of the instrument and set up the target height for the
conduction of stake out.
iv. Preparation for staking out.

V. FINDINGS/REMARKS
A basic curve was constructed using the data provided. The station PC is
positioned along the route leading to the COE building, and the points are drawn
across the field, ending at a gently sloping corner.
VI. OBSTACLES
Problems encountered during the activity, first was Setting up the total station, second
was the communication between the pole holder and the total station handler;
miscommunication was present during the process, lastly, we encountered a problem
within our stations, we ended up repeating locating station number 8.

VII. CONCLUSION
During our outdoor excursion, we learned how to identify and set up a simple curve station.
Using a total station and reading the deflection angle from the first point, we may construct a
basic curve with a deflection angle. Without the tape, we wouldn't have been able to locate the
points in the distance, and it also serves as a reference for the line of sight from the total station to
the range pole. If you are not an expert, setting up a complete station can be challenging.
Although leveling, operating, and focusing the total station's telescope can be a pain, the skills
we've learned will be invaluable in the future. Our group encountered mostly human errors, such
as inaccurate tape measurements, and incorrect reading of the deflection angle in the total station,
forcing us to guess where its original point was, which turned out to be incorrect, and we had to
start over.
When reading from the total station, I recommend having someone else make the reading for
the group so you can see if anything is wrong right away and adjust it rather than having to start
over. I also propose that you check the instruments to see if they are in excellent working order so
that your group is not held liable if they are already broken. Borrow equipment early to avoid
running out of stock, and start early to ensure you have enough time to repeat the fieldwork if
necessary.
