ARTICLE REVIEW 1: Suicide prevention among young people: A study protocol for
evaluating Youth Aware of Mental Health in Australian secondary schools.

The article is mainly about suicide prevention among young people. The article is based on

the action taken by youth aware mental health (YAM) towards students. The linear mixed

models will be used to test the effect of the intervention on continuous, scaled outcome

measures able to include participants with missing data without using biased techniques.

YAM planned large -scale multilevel suicide prevention trial known as Life Span which has

nine best-practice strategies to reduce suicide attempts. There are 124 schools involved which

targeted year 9 students. Data collection is made by online surveys and questionnaires. The

overall measure has been shown to demonstrate satisfactory validity and reliability

(Cronbach’s alpha = 0.85, test-retest reliability assessed over a three weeks period = 0.92).

The findings found that the Life span has the potential to significantly impact suicide

mortality rates and suicide attempts of young Australians and this study will stimulate much

needed future research into youth suicide prevention programs.

Students Mental Health and Motivation During Online Learning Throughout Covid-19
Pandemic

This article is mainly about identifying the relationship between the level of mental health

and motivation among postgraduate students. The study was conducted in the Faculty of

Education in a research university in the Klang Valley area during online learning throughout

the Covid-19 pandemic. The authors use a quantitative case study method with a descriptive

survey method. There are 242 postgraduate students involved in the study. General Health

Questionnaire (GHQ-12) was used to measured student’s mental health and their motivation

are measured using the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ). The data

collected was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the study

show that the postgraduate students have low levels of mental health but high levels of

motivation during online classes throughout the pandemic. The results indicated there is a

significant positive relationship between mental health and motivation. The findings found

there are implications on the need for effective communication to keep and sustain healthy

students’ mental health and motivation.

Mental Health Awareness and Advocacy (MHAA) for Youth: An evaluation of a
college-based mental health literacy curriculum

The article is mainly about to investigate mental health awareness among college students.

The study was conducted in a control group. Generalized linear mixed models are used

throughout the survey. This study uses descriptive survey method. Participants are doing

online survey regarding mental health. Pre-test and post-test were doing to identified the

effectiveness of this method. There are 151 college students are participated in this survey.

Data collection is made by online surveys and questionnaires. The MHAA-AT declarative

knowledge questions demonstrated moderate internal consistency with Cronbach’s alphas of

0.48, 0.70, 0.55 for the Identifying, Locating, and Responding domains respectively. The

findings found significant time condition interactions on outcome measures such that the

MHAA condition group improved significantly more than the control group.

ISSUE AND TRENDS OF DEPRESSION AMONG STUDENTS IN MALAYSIA

This article focuses on the level of depression detected among secondary school students in

Penang. The methodology of the study is quantitatively using cross -sectional study method.

The authors conducted this study in 24 secondary schools in Penang with a sample of 3932

students. The research instrument used is Depression Anxiety Stress Inventory 21 (DASS21)

which was adapted from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOE). The findings of the study

found that a total of 2854 students (72.6%) of secondary schools in Penang were classified as

depressed at a healthy level, 490 students (12.5%) were found to have a mild level of

depression and 465 students (11.8%) had a moderate level of depression while 96 students

(2.4%) experienced severe levels of depression and the remaining 33 students (0.8%)

experienced very severe levels of depression. The implications of this study lead to the early

detection of the level of student depression in Penang so that early action can curb social

problems due to prolonged depression.

CORRELATION BETWEEN MENTAL HEALTH AND CARIES STATUS IN
PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

This study aims to find out the correlation between mental health and caries status in primary

school students in Sekolah Rendah Mulia Bhakti Makassar in Indonesia. The methodology of

the study conducted is analytical observation with cross -sectional study design. The sample

selected was 115 students from 221 students of Sekolah Awam Mulia Bhakti Makassar. This

study used a strength and difficulty questionnaire (SDQ) consisting of 25 questions

comparing 5 scales and consisting of 5 statements on each scale. These 5 scales consisted of

an emotion scale, a behavioural problem scale, a hyperactive scale, a problem scale with

peers and a pro-social scale. The results of the study found that the correlation between

mental health and caries status with Pearson correlation test, p = 0.004 (p <0.05) and

correlation coefficient, r = 0.266. There is a high DMF-T index among students whose mental

health is abnormal. The conclusion from this study states that there is a relationship between

mental health status and dental caries status of students in Sekolah Rendah Mulia Bhakti

Makassar, Indonesia that is with lower mental health status of children with developmental

disorders resulting in bad habits such as biting nails or sucking fingers improperly directly

affects the status of dental caries in children's teeth. The implication of this study is that early

detection can be done by recommending the government and relevant institutions to increase

attention to dental and oral health in the form of prevention, promotive and rehabilitative.
