BIOLOGY PLANT

The male part of the flower is called stamen. The stamen is made up of the filament and the anther.

FILAMENT

The filament project the anther up wards and out ward so that it can meet with other agents that
will help to pollination the flower.

POLLINATION

Pollination is movement or transfer of pollen grain from the anther into the stigma. Self pollination
is the transfer of pollen grain from the anther to the stigma of the flower or a different flower of the
same plant. Cross pollination is the transfer of pollen grain of one anther to a different stigma of a
different plant.

ANTHER

The anther produce pollin grain.

All collection of stamen is called Androcrum . The female part of the flower is called the carpet or
pistols. The carpet consists of stigma, style , overy and ovule.

STIGMA,STYLE ,OVERY AND OVULE

This is where pollen grains fall. The style is a tube that takes pollen grain to the overall of the flower. In
the overy fertilization take place it will form a seed and fruit.

A flower may have more than one Carpel. A collection of carpet is called GYNECIUM.

Mechanism of Pollination

1. Heterostyly Significant difference in the length of the stamen and pistols.

2. Male sterility
3. Self incompatibility the pollen grain from a flower is not tolerated by it own stigma.
4. Dichogamy this occurs in hermaphrodite flower, the stamen matures before the pistol or the
reverse.
5. Monoecy receives pollen grains from it own flower.
6. Dioecy the plant is either Male or female but not herphodi.
