AFFIDAVIT OF PROBABLE CASE
ARREST OF KESHAUN SHEFFIELD
On Thursday, April 14, 2022, the Montgomery County Detective Bureau
received a request from a Private Investigator to investigate the circumstances
surrounding a missing person, Rashid Young, out of Pottstown Borough,
Montgomery County, from August 2019.
In August 2019, Rashid Daquan Young, age 22 at the time, was residing
at 213 E. High Street, Apartment 301, Pottstown. Rashid Young was
intimately involved with a male named Keshaun SHEFFIELD, age 17 at that
time. Interviews conducted with friends and family members revealed that
Young and SHEFFIELD had known each other for over two years and had a
relationship that was volatile and at times, violent.
On Monday, August 19, 2019, Pottstown Police Officer Timothy Coffland
responded to 213 E. High Street, Apartment 301 (Young’s apartment) for a
flooded apartment. A resident of the building reported water coming from the
apartment. No one was present when Officer Coffland responded and after he
forced entry, he observed that the bathroom sink appeared to have been
intentionally clogged and the faucet left on. The apartment was found in
disarray and was heavily damaged with holes in walls, broken doors and trash
strewn throughout. Officer Coffland learned that Keshaun SHEFFIELD also
resided at the apartment and reached him by phone at the cell phone number
267-398-3935. Keshaun informed Officer Coffland that he had a domestic
dispute with Rashid on Monday, August 19, 2019 because SHEFFIELD told
Rashid he was leaving him. According to SHEFFIELD, Rashid did not take the
news well and Keshaun left the apartment.
On Wednesday, August 25, 2019, the property owner of Young’s
apartment reported to the Pottstown Police Department the damage sustained
to Young's apartment was in excess of twenty-thousand dollars. The property
owner stated she attempted to contact Young on his cellular phone number of
267-338-7685. The property owner did not speak to Young but received a text
from that number stating, “I am responsible and will pay for the damages”.
‘The Pottstown Police Department filed charges against Young for felony
criminal mischief and an arrest warrant was issued.
Young was the recipient of a trust fund in excess of two-million dollars
managed by the Arden Trust Company, herein referred to as ‘The Trust.’ The
‘Trust would deposit $800.00 into Young's Wells Fargo checking account
(XXXXXX9364) bi-weekly. Young was also the sole owner of a 2018 Honda
Pilot, Pennsylvania registration KSS-6783, VIN SFNYF6HS5XJB048063.
1On December 16, 2019 at 1:25 PM, Keshaun SHEFFIELD contacted the
Pottstown Police Department to report Young missing. SHEFFIELD informed
Pottstown Police Officer Craig Johnson that he and Young had been involved in
a domestic altercation in August 2019, and that was the last time that
SHEFFIELD had any contact with Young. SHEFFIELD stated to Officer
Johnson that he had been trying to contact Young but had been unsuccessful
It would be determined that phone and Facebook messaging records
contradicted this claim.
On December 16, 2019 at 8:21 PM, Tobe Cyrus reported, by phone, that
his stepson, Rashid Young, has been missing since August of 2019. This
report was made to Officer Andrea Sovari.
On December 19, 2019 at 10:22 AM, Antonio Dill-Word, Rashid Young's
brother, reported Young missing to the Pottstown Police Department.
Detectives learned that SHEFFIELD had possession of Young's Honda
Pilot after the self-reported altercation he had with Young in August 2019 as
records indicated the Whitemarsh Township Police Department conducted a
traffic stop on Young's vehicle on November 21, 2019 at 10:43 PM and
SHEFFIELD was the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle at that time.
‘A review of Rashid Young’s Wells Fargo checking account (KXXXXX9364)

‘The Trust froze Young’s assets after the deposit on December 17, 2019,
as the Trust had no contact with Rashid Young since August 2019. A review of
Young's Wells Fargo Bank Statements from January 1, 2019 until his
disappearance demonstrated transfers to Keshaun SHEFFIELD. These transfer
amounts were significantly less than the pattern outlined above. Of
significance, the transactional history for Rashid Young from January 2019 to
the beginning of August 2019 reflected a pattern that one would expect from a
person’s normal life. That pattern significantly changed mid-August 2019
where the statements only reflected deposits, electronic transfers to Keshaun
SHEFFIELD and debits from items returned unpaid. Detectives suspected
Keshaun SHEFFIELD had access to Rashid Young’s Wells Fargo account and
transferred monies into his own account following Young’s disappearance.
On May 14, 2021 Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, Judge Lois
E Murphy, appointed Rashid Young's brother, Antonio Dill-Word as the Power
of Attorney for Rashid Young due to Young’s disappearance since August of
2019.
oeOn Friday, April 15, 2022, Montgomery County Detective John
Wittenberger interviewed Kimberly Cyrus, Rashid Young’s mother. Ms. Cyrus
stated the last time she spoke with her son on the phone was on August 19,
2019. Ms. Cyrus stated that Rashid told her that he had an argument with
Keshaun SHEFFIELD. Ms. Cyrus stated that she had knowledge her son’s
relationship with SHEFFIELD was volatile, Following August 19, 2019, Ms.
Cyrus and other family members received text messages or social media
messages from Rashid Young that he was ceasing contact with his family and
friends. According to Ms. Cyrus, the sentence structure of the messages were
uncharacteristic of Young and Ms. Cyrus and other family members were
suspect that Young was not the person sending the messages. Detectives
suspected SHEFFIELD maintained possession of Young’s phone following his
disappearance and had access to Young’s social media accounts
On Monday, April 19, 2022, Antonio Dill-Word, reported Rashid Young’s
Honda Pilot stolen to the Pottstown Police Department. As a result, the vehicle
was entered into NCIC as stolen. On Tuesday, April 20, 2022, Montgomery
County Detectives Wittenberger and Caso located Young’s Honda Pilot on the
3900 block of Cambridge Street, Philadelphia. This was an area where private
investigators had previously seen Keshaun SHEFFIELD with Young's vehicle.
Young’s Honda Pilot was seized and securely stored.
Detectives learned that Rashid Young had a history of mental health
diagnoses as well as prior suicidal ideations/attempts. A check with
surrounding Coroner's offices by private investigators were negative for locating
Young’s remains. Credit checks were also performed by private investigators
indicating no new accounts under Young’s social security number. Young had
been entered as a missing person in the National Missing and Unidentified
Persons System (NaMUS). Considering the circumstances surrounding Rashid
Young's disappearance, investigators suspected foul play
On Wednesday, April 20, 2022, Montgomery County Detectives
Wittenberger and Anthony Caso interviewed Ijah Ortiz. Ms. Ortiz considered
herself Rashid Young’s best friend. Ms. Ortiz stated Rashid Young and
SHEFFIELD were in a volatile relationship and stated that SHEFFIELD
misrepresented his age to Young when they began their relationship, claiming
to be 18-years-old but he was actually a minor, Following Young’s
disappearance, Ms, Ortiz attempted to contact Young and received only
messages back that she did not believe were from Young. Ms. Ortiz stated she
was involved in a three-way call with SHEFFIELD in late August 2019 where
SHEFFIELD told her and a friend that Young had stabbed SHEFFIELD and
“walked away from the car”, During this call, SHEFFIELD told Ms. Ortiz and a
friend that he had not seen nor spoken to Young since Young “walked away
from the car.”Detectives learned that Rashid Young’s Facebook account was
https:/ /www.facebook.com/rashid.young.98. Rashid’s mother had received
Facebook messages from her son's Facebook account on the following dates
after he was purportedly missing:
August 28, 2019 at 9:17 PM
October 31, 2019 at 4:26 PM
‘The content of these messages was stating to “leave me alone” and “I
don’t want nothing to do with you or anybody”.
On May 6, 2022, investigators received data from Facebook from Rashid
Young’s Facebook account that contained the above messages as well as
location data, specifically GPS coordinates and Internet Protocol addresses. A
review of those messages and GPS data suggest that the device used to access
Rashid Young’s Facebook account, during the time where he was missing, was
in the area of the 6700 block of Musgrave Street, Philadelphia. Keshaun
Sheffield’s mother resided on this block. This information supports
investigators’ suspicions that Keshaun Sheffield was the person accessing and
responding to Facebook messages meant for Rashid Young, Additional review
of the Facebook data from Rashid Young’s account reveals messaging between
Rashid Young and Keshaun Sheffield between September 10, 2019 and
September 12, 2019. A review of GPS data during this timeframe also placed
Rashid Young’s device in the 6700 block of Musgrave Street, Philadelphia.
Again, investigators suspect Keshaun Sheffield was using Rashid Young’s
device to access Young's Facebook. The data also provided the username of
Keshaun Sheffield’s Facebook user identification,
https:/ / www.facebook.com/ profile. php?id=100010052956883, username
Shaun Shaun,
Further review of Rashid Young’s Facebook messages demonstrated the
following message conversion between Young’s account and Young’s brother,

A review of the Facebook GPS coordinates in and around the time these |
messages were sent placed the device that accessed Young’s Facebook account
in the area of the 6700 block of Musgrave Street, Sheifield’s mothers residence. |
On Monday, May 7, 2022, Detective Wittenberger spoke with Keisha
Sheffield, Keshaun SHEFFIELD’s mother. Ms. Sheffield informed detectives
that Rashid Young has never lived at her residence in the 6700 block of
Musgrave Street.
In August 2019, Rashid Young was employed by Papa John’s Pizza,
Shoemaker Road, Pottstown. On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, Detective |
Wittenberger interviewed James Thomas, manager of Papa John’s. Mr.
‘Thomas also managed Rashid Young in 2019. Mr. Thomas stated that Rashid
Young last worked the evening shift on Sunday, August 18, 2019. A review of
Young’s Facebook GPS coordinates placed Young at the restaurant during this
time. Mr. Thomas stated Young failed to show for work on Monday, August 19,
2019 for evening shift. Mr. Thomas attempted to contact Young by call and
text when he failed to show for work without making contact. Mr. Thomas
recalled that sometime after this, he had a text conversation with Young's
phone and the content of the messages was someone identifying himself as
being Young's boyfriend communicating that Young was in the hospital and
would not be returning to work.
On May 6, 2022, Detective Wittenberger obtained appeared before the
Honorable Judge Virgil B. Walker in the Montgomery County Court of Common
Pleas. Detective Wittenberger presented Judge Walker with an Application for
Search Warrant, Exhibit A and Affidavit of Probable Cause seeking the Court’s
authorization to obtain Google account information/records pertaining to email
addresses and cellular telephone numbers associated with Young and
SHEFFIELD. Judge Walker found there was sufficient Probable Cause and
signed the Search Warrant, which is indexed as DA-851-2022. At 1:29 PM,
this Search Warrant was served on Google via their law enforcement portal
On Wednesday, May 25, 2022, Detective Wittenberger received the requested
information detailed within Exhibit A of the Search Warrant from Google, LLC.
On Thursday, May 26, 2022, Montgomery County Detective Mark
Minzola conducted an analysis of Google, LLC records, specifically subscriber
location history, belonging to Young's cellular telephone number (267) 338-
7685. Detective Minzola has received specialized training and on numerous
occasions has been recognized as an Expert in the field of Cellular Telephone
Record Analysis in Court. In an attempt to ascertain the location(s) of Young's
7cellular telephone during the time period encompassing Young’s
disappearance, Detective Minzola concentrated on the records related to
August 18, 19, 20 & 21%, 2019.
After his analysis, Detective Minzola found Young's cellular telephone’s
movements on August 20, 2019, were of particular interest. During the early
morning hours of August 20, 2019, Young’s cell phone left the area of his home
(213 B. High Street) and traveled to the area of SHEFFIELD’s mother's
residence in the 6700 block of Musgrave Street. Young’s cell phone was in the
area of SHEFFIELD’s mother's residence from 3:15 AM to 4:02 AM. Then from
4:08 AM to 5:49 AM, a period of one (1) hour and forty-six (46) minutes,
Young's cellular telephone was located in the 7300 block of Rural Lane,
Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. From 5:49 AM to 7:09:01
AM, there was no data collected from Young’s cell phone. However, from
7:09:02 AM to 7:12:23 AM, Young's cell phone traveled back to the area of
SHEFFIELD’s mother's residence in the 6700 block of Musgrave Street.
On Friday, May 27, 2022 Detective Wittenberger contacted the
Philadelphia Homicide Unit in order to collaborate with the Philadelphia Police
Department to inquire about the location on Rural Lane. Detective
Wittenberger made contact with Philadelphia Police Detective Robert Hesser.
Detective Hesser researched the information and provided the following details
to a case he was investigating:
On Monday, September 30, 2019 at 8:52 AM, Officers from the 14
District responded to a radio call of buried remains on the grounds of the
Awbury Arboretum at 1 Awbury Drive, Philadelphia. Detectives from the
Northwest Detective Division, Crime Scene Unit and personnel from the Office
of the Medical Examiner responded and unearthed human remains from a
shallow hole dug in the ground. The remains were transported to the Office of
the Medical Examiner. Philadelphia Police Detectives learned that an
Arboretum landscaper discovered a hole dug in one of the trails on Monday,
August 26, 2019. The landscaper planned on filling the hole the next day and
found on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, the hole had been filled in. Located
approximately 8-10 feet from where the hole had been filled, the landscaper
located a full-size trash/recyclable container. The landscaper described this
container as having a foul odor and contained within it a “slime” and maggots.
Furthermore, the landscaper informed detectives the hole was not on the
property on Friday, August 23, 2019.
Philadelphia Detectives examined the blue, full sized trash/recyclable
container from the scene. The container was marked, “Property of Pottstown
Borough” and contained a fading identifying number on the front of the
container. On October 1, 2019, Philadelphia Associate Medical Examiner Khalil
Wardak, a Forensic Pathologist, conducted an autopsy on the skeletal and
decomposed remains. Dr. Wardak identified multiple stab wounds to include
the left upper back, right mid back, left lateral chest wall and posterior neck.
Dr. Wardak opined the cause of death was multiple stab wounds and the
manner of death was homicide.
On Tuesday, October 8, 2019, Philadelphia Detectives contacted the
Pottstown Police Department to research the identifying number from the
trash/recyclable container and learned the container was assigned to an
apartment building in the 200 block of E. High Street, Pottstown Borough.
On Saturday, May 28, 2022, Montgomery County Detective Lieutenant
Todd Richard and Detective Wittenberger interviewed Commonwealth Witness
#1, herein known as CW1. CWI stated had been involved in an intimate
relationship with Keshaun SHEFFIELD during a time that SHEFFIELD was
residing with Young in Pottstown. CW1 stated sometime in August 2019, CW1
received a call from SHEFFIELD telling CW1 to come outside his house in
Philadelphia and meet with SHEFFIELD. SHEFFIELD was operating Young's
black Honda Pilot and told CW1 that he stabbed and killed Young, because he
“had to.” CW1 stated SHEFFIELD told him that SHEFFIELD and Young were
fighting, both had knives and SHEFFIELD made the first move. SHEFFIELD
told CWI this happened in the living room of Young’s Pottstown apartment.
CWI stated he did not believe SHEFFIELD at first but later “saw the evidence.”
CW1 stated at a later date, he was with SHEFFIELD at SHEFFIELD’s mother’s
residence in the 6700 block of Musgrave Street. SHEFFIELD took CW1 outside
to the rear of the house where CW1 smelled a foul-odor.
‘The residence of SHEFFIELD’S mother is located at 6775 Musgrave
Street, Philadelphia which is less than one mile from 1 Awbury Drive where
Rashid Young's remains were located,
On another date in August 2019, CW1 stated he helped SHEFFIELD
“bury the body.” CW1 described how SHEFFIELD picked him up in the Honda
Pilot. In the rear of the Pilot was the trash/recyclable container that emitted a
foul odor. SHEFFIELD drove to different Walmart locations and purchased
shovels. CW1 stated that he and SHEFFIELD spent hours digging a hole at
“Awbury” during nighttime hours. CWI stated that they departed the area
before burying the body because either it started raining or SHEFFIELD heard
something. SHEFFIELD told CW1 that SHEFFIELD and someone else help
SHEFFIELD bury Young’s body in the hole dug by SHEFFIELD and CW1. CW1
stated SHEFFIELD did not tell him who that person was
On Saturday, May 28, 2022, Detective Wittenberger provided
Philadelphia Homicide Detective Robert Hesser dental records belonging to
9Rashid Young and familial buccal swabs to be used for comparison purposes
on the remains recovered from the Awbury Arboretum on September 30, 2019.
On Sunday, May 29, 2022, Dr. John Nase, a Forensic Odonatologist,
positively identified the remains as being the body of Rashid Young.
