Leonor Briones pushed through the decision of continuing the school year of 2020-2021(DepEd,
2020). Teachers had to make a move to prepare for this event. Private schools have an internet
connection, however, 74% of public schools do not (Jones, 2019), this caused problems for teachers in
the public sector since internet connectivity is a must for online learning.

Also, there are increased workloads for students and teachers alike, and that is contradictory to the
purpose of the lockdown, which is to keep safe and revitalize one’s self (Bagayas, 2020). To sum it up,
Nemenzo, 2020, stated that there’s unequal accessibility to the internet, personal and professional
attention is overlapped, and teachers were forced to adapt to the use of gadgets overnight.

Furthermore, students couldn’t get the same feeling of learning from a virtual classroom (Edge and
Loegering, 2000; Gamage et al., 2020), poor student output may lead to the teacher questioning
themselves in their line of work, thinking it’s their fault that the class is progressing slowly.

Back then, a teacher’s job was to handle and teach students, and to carry out the necessary paper works
in school, separated from their personal life (Mehak, 2016), the sudden impact of covid-19 disrupted
that balance (Kaden, 2020), and now they have to juggle both their professional and personal lives.

A public trend in Social Media claimed that students will learn less in online class. While this may come
out as true, teachers may feel disappointment, frustration, and guilt among themselves as they couldn’t
teach the students effectively (Mallillin-Borja, 2019). Moreover, teachers feel anxious about their
financial situation (Schwartz, 2018), especially during this time of pandemic.

A public school teacher named Sara Marie Baria shared her monthly income, according to her it was
₱22,938, which was barely enough to support a family of four (Lopez, 2019). That being said, if theyre
the only breadwinner in their family, it’ll be a huge burden upon them.
