Time Number of Days

At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:

I. OBJECTIVES 1. Identify phenotypes as the expressions of inherited characteristics.
2. Differentiate dominant trait from a recessive trait
3. Write the genotype and phenotype names of organisms

The learner demonstrates an understanding of

A. Content Standards  how cells divide to produce new cells meiosis as one
of the processes producing genetic variations of
the Mendelian Pattern of Inheritance
The learners should be able to:
 present an analysis of the data gathered on diseases
B. Performance Standards resulting from nutrient deficiency report on the
importance of variation in plant and animal
breeding
Predict phenotypic expressions of traits following simple patterns of

Competencies (MELC)

 Identify energy levels, sub levels and orbitals

D. Enabling Competencies  Analyse the maximum number of electrons an energy level,
sub level and orbital can hold

Activities

IV. PROCEDURES
The learners will answer the following question as a review of the
past lesson:1 Differentiate mitosis from meiosis?
2. What is the importance of these types of cell division in an organism?

The students will do the task instructed by the teacher.

A. Look around you and notice the amazing variations among living
organisms. Have you ever wondered how this happened?
What could be responsible for this?
Now focus your attention to the traits of you family
A. INTRODUCTION members. Your family members include your mother,
father, brothers and sisters.
(1 day)
(The teacher will show the picture to the students to
show some traits that can be inherited from the parents)

Variation in hairline and earlobes

(pictures from clip art collection)

The students will do Learning Task 1 Monohybrid Crosses

B. DEVELOPMENT
(1 day)

The students will do Learning Task # 2. Punnett Square

C. ENGAGEMENT
(1 day)

The students will Solve the following crosses and will show their solutions by
writing it on a sheet of paper.
1. When a plant homozygous for tall is crossed with a plant
homozygous for dwarf, what will be the appearance of the
offspring of a cross of F1 with its dwarf parent?

2. In summer squash, white fruit color (W) is dominant over yellow

fruit color (w) and disk-shaped fruit (D) is dominant over sphere-
D. ASSIMILATION shaped fruit (d). If a squash plant true-breeding for white, disk-
(1 day) shaped fruit is crossed with a plant true- breeding for yellow,
sphere-shaped fruit, what will the phenotypic and genotypic
ratios be?

In Mendel's experiments, if the gene for tall (T) plants was incompletely dominant over
the gene for short (t) plants, what would be the result of crossing two Tt plants?
