LINUX MINT OS

How to install:

We have to download the .iso file from https://mirrors.piconets.webwerks.in/linuxmint-

mirror/iso/stable/20.2/linuxmint-20.2-cinnamon-64bit.iso:// now flash the iso image into CD
drive of USB. Before flashing you need to erase all the contents of USB drive. For flashing we
need to use an app called Balena Etcher or Rufus, here we used Rufus for flashing.

Open rufus and select the target device, iso image partition-scheme and target system and
clickstart, after few minutes USB drive will be ready for booting.

 When you boot the computer from the USB stick, Linux Mint starts a live session It
logs you in automatically as a user called mint and shows you a desktop with the

 Manage the partition or specify which partitions to use. Linux Mint requires one
partition to be mounted on the root / directory.

 The Linux Mint operating system takes roughly 15 GB, so give this partition a decent
size (100GB or more).

 Also create a swap partition. This partition is used for hibernation and as a safety buffer
in case your computer runs out of RAM. Give this partition a size equal to the amount
of RAM. Give this partition a size equal to the amount of RAM in your computer.

 Select your time zone.

 Select your keyboard layout.

 Enter your user details.

Features:
 Linux Mint’s core difference is its user interface and ease of interactivity.
 The design of Linux Mint is very comfortable and easy to use but at the same time, it is
also powerful and configurable
 Everything is done to make the user experience better. User feedback is very important
and it is used to consistently improve the quality of Linux Mint.
 Linux Mint provides Long-Term Support (LTS) releases which are normally supported
for a duration of 5 years.

Why choose Linux Mint?

1. OOTB
Everything just works "Out Of The Box", without the need to configure anything or to
install extra applications. It's ready to go. Although it's very configurable, everything is
set and tuned nicely by default and no unnecessary questions are asked.
2. Rock solid
With centralized software updates, system snapshots, a unique Update Manager and
the robustness of its Linux architecture, Linux Mint requires very little maintenance. It
works, it's safe and it doesn't break.
3. KISS
It's very easy to use. It features an intuitive desktop and adopts KISS principles. Anyone
can rapidly feel at home and use Linux Mint. User experience, workflow and comfort is
key.
4. Free and Open Source
It is completely free of cost and almost all of its components are Open Source. Linux
Mint stands on the shoulder of giants, it is based on Debian and Ubuntu.
5. Home rule
It's your computer, your rules. This is a key principle at Linux Mint. We don't collect
data, we don't work against you. You're the boss. Your operating system is designed to
do what you want without getting in your way.
6. Community-centric
There is a tight bond and a great relationship between the development team and the
community. We communicate with our users and constantly use their feedback to
improve Linux Mint.

Advantages:

 It works out of the box by providing full multimedia support and is extremely easy to use.
 It’s both free of cost and open source.
 It’s community-driven. Here users are encouraged to send feedback to the project. This
is done so that we can make use of their ideas to improve Linux Mint.
 It is based on Debian and Ubuntu and it provides about 30,000 packages and one of the
best software managers.
 It’s safe and reliable, Linux Mint requires very little maintenance (no regressions, no
antivirus, no anti-spyware…etc.) because of a conservative approach to software
updates, a unique Update Manager and a robust architecture.

Disadvantages:

 No Device Manager.
 Mint has a conservative approach to new technologies. So, if you like to keep up with
the latest technologies or flashy desktops, then you may be better suited to a distro such
as Fedora instead.
 Mint is too large and requires a reasonably capable machine to run effectively. So if
your machine is particularly old and you can’t upgrade it then you may be better off
with something else instead.
 Although it is based on Ubuntu, Mint differs in many ways from its sibling, so not
everything out there for Ubuntu will work with Mint. Also, the latest version of Mint
will not be based on the latest version of Ubuntu: it is invariably one or two releases
behind.
 No PPA (Personal Package Archive) — adding a PPA to your sources and then
installing software from a PPA is a great way to break your install. It is possible that it
may not happen with every PPA software initially, but it will happen, eventually.
