Example(1):
Calculate the elongation in RC Beam restrained from one side and the other side is free

which subjected to uniform change in temperature =20o considering thermal expansion

L=1.5m ΔL
(α=1x10-5 /C)

Solution:-
∆𝐿 =∝ L ∆𝑇 =1x10-5x1500x20=0.3mm

Example(2):
Calculate and draw the strain diagram for RC slab which subjected to temperature =5o inside and 25o outside

considering thermal expansion (α=1x10-5 /C)

Solution:-
T=25o

𝜀𝑡 =∝ ∆𝑇 =1x10-5x5= 5x10-5 (Inside) 𝜺𝒕 =25x10-5 Outside

𝜀𝑡 =∝ ∆𝑇 =1x10-5x25= 25x10-5 (Outside) T=5o

Inside
𝜺𝒕 =5x10-5
