QUARTER 4 -WEEK 1

LEARNING TASK 1: ACTIVITY 1

Direction: Answer briefly the following questions.

1. Select a particular business and search on how they manufacture their

product. Briefly describe the manufacturing process of their product.

“REALME”
NEW DELHI: While other members of the Chinese electronics giant BBK
Electronics – Vivo, Oppo look at mega sport events especially in India to expand
their reach, Shenzhen-based Realme seems to be banking on its ‘community’
driven approach to tap the next lot of millennials.

Speaking candidly to ET, Madhav Sheth, India chief executive at Realme told how
the company would rather utilize its funds towards building its product portfolio,
adding innovations than sponsoring mega events as part of its brand strategy.

“We never have any marketing or sales strategy; we only have a product-driven
strategy. We are community based people; we'll keep on sponsoring college events
but won't waste our money in sponsoring sports teams,” he said.
Sheth added that while he doesn’t think sponsoring mega events is a wrong
strategy, it’s just that Realme doesn’t ‘believe’ in it.

In a recent interaction with ET, Vivo said that being the title-sponsor of Indian
Premier League (IPL) has helped the company immensely in expanding its
consumer reach and creating brand awareness in the country.

Meanwhile, Realme also has a ‘low-margin, high-volume’ strategy as part of which

the company has kept its profit margin between 4% to 5%. “We're not making
enough profit margin but when you do a good volume, these margins are good
enough,” Sheth said.

The company also recently took jibes at Xiaomi on social media saying that its
latest model Realme X priced at Rs 16,999 was a better product at a much more
competitive price.

Realme had 13% online market share in January-May period against Xiaomi’s 46%
share, as per Counterpoint data. Realme’s overall share stood at 7%, while Xiaomi
remained the leader with 30% share during the same period.

In India, the latest smartphone entrant has a team of about 70 people in corporate
operations and has over 10,000 people working on the production end. Sheth told
that the company has a small team for corporate operations and management and
it prefers it this way.

Talking about Xiaomi, Sheth said that people have to understand what Realme is
offering and what Xiaomi is offering. “It's fun to be a challenger rather than being a
leader,” he expressed candidly.

In another interaction, Sheth had told ET that Realme’s local research and
development (R&D) center has already started playing a significant role in
customise products for the local market. It has also started work on 5G
smartphones
