than Lift Irrigation. Thus, it is recommended that

PROJECT SUMMARY

LOCATION

Thalagad Lift Irrigation project is the first water lifting project in Thalagad. It is located in the
ward number 1 of Shailyashikhar Rural Municipality in Darchula district. The Project area is
accessible from a nearby road AT 1HR by WALKING which is Darchula local road which
connects to Mahakali highway at Gokuleswar.

SOURCE

Thalagad local stream is the source for the project from which the water is to be pumped for
irrigation purpose. The source is perennial and has optimum quantity of water in order to fulfill the
object of project. Catchment area is slightly covered with forest. There is enough discharge of
about 6 LPS or more in all seasons for both drinking purpose and irrigation purpose.

EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS

The proposed project area is partially dried up. The place is accessible to the road. There are more
than 30 families residing there. There is the provision of drinking water. However, irrigation is the
issue during the dry season.

DELIVERY PIPE LINE

Farmers have proper facility of canal. However, the water available is insufficient for irrigation.
The proposed pipe from the stream to the reservoir is new.

AGRICULTURE PRACTICES

Command Area is rain fed and the crops grown are Paddy, wheat and maize. Vegetables farming is
practiced in minor area with water facility but not succeed in region where there is lack of water.
The proposed project supports more vegetable farming as LIFT IRRIGATION is considered to
have given a fruitful outcome from vegetable farming. The production of the crop is very low and
if irrigation facility is made available, they can grow vegetables & have a market for products, thus
contributing to the country’s economy.

COMMAND AREA

Terrace type of topography exists in the command area. The Gross Command Area (GCA) and Net
Command Area (NCA) of the proposed irrigation project is 13.1 Ha and 10 Ha respectively. The
proposed project is supposed to irrigate area through Lift Irrigation.

SOCIAL STRUCTURE AND OCCUPATION

The Project area comprises of Chhetri (Dhami casted group) as ethnic group mostly. The project is
going to uplift the economy of the people living nearby. The people aware of that fact are more
than ready to co-operate. They are ready to do their part of work and contribute in labor-based
work volunteering.
