INTRODUCTION

Study 1: The Security Practices Conducted by Social Media Apps User in Cavite State
University

Security Practices on different social media websites is one of the most important
preventive techniques within the social media platforms. These practices designed to protect
networks, devices, programs, and personal data information from attack, damage, or
unauthorized access that want to destroy reputation among social media app users like a cyber
security group such as hacking, spamming, phishing and more because some data breaches
comes from this. The social media websites have a security features and to avoid security
breaches on someone’s account. Kouser and Majid (2019) suggests six ways to ensure safe
social networking. Clearing browser history, two factors verification, updating privacy setting,
avoid clicking ads on social media, avoid using third party apps, minimizing the use of Virtual
Private Networks, using different and strong passwords, and do not trust a message.

Think before you click are the most common words to promote awareness and to
empower children, parents and every users to protect themselves against the risks they may
encounter on digital and social media platforms. A lot of people are using social media today,
such as Facebook, Twitter, Telegram, Instagram and more other websites which became a
perfect targets for scams , hacking and data breach. These security breaches happens because
of misused of social media websites among users. The wide age range and technology
experience level of social media users makes security management even more complex. A
social platform needs to not only combat hackers, but also has to protect users whose personal
security practices might be very weak. According to Chua (2021) As of January 2021, it was
evaluated that there are now 73.9 million internet users in the Philippines. Throughout the globe
most of the users of the social media are younger than adult most of them are using Facebook.
And University students are one of its top users not only because they need it but because not
being part of it makes you different and out of the group since social media is one of the normal
trend for every students. Most written literatures and early studies focus on how can social
media apps improve their security measures but despite of having a continuous updates with
their software security breakers still goes on. And this where the researchers realized that the
users are also very crucial in creating a safer virtual space for their selves.

This study aims to identify security practices to protect the confidentiality among social
media app users. With that the researchers want determine how user protect their personal
information against unauthorized access from hackers wanted to exploit the personal data of
such user. Specifically what are the safeguarding activities they are doing with their personal
identity following the guidelines of security features in different social media platforms.

The researchers believes that this study would be beneficial to students who are using
social media apps and all the other users. This study might gives awareness on their social
media security practices and generates best practices and strategies in keeping your
information safe on all the online platforms you are in. The scope and limitations of this study
are the students who are using social media apps in Cavite States University Indang – Main
Campus.

Statement of the problem

Generally, this study wants to identify the Security Practices Conducted by Social Media Apps
User in Cavite State University.

Specifically it wants to answer the following questions;

a. What are the security measures conducted by the social media app users to avoid online
risk?
b. What are the types of privacy security are social media app users often practicing
c. How often they practice the security measures to avoid risk with the social media app
users?

Objective of the study

The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive understanding on how to

protect personal data from unauthorized access among social media apps users.

This study aims to;

a. Identify security measures to protect the confidentiality regarding personal data among
social media app users.
b. To assess whether security is important to college students.
c. To evaluate if university should provide better cyber-security education.

Significance of the study

In this modern world wherein people rely too much in using different social media apps it
makes them the very first target of cybercriminals. Social media apps is indeed provide a big
help in many ways however, it also has consequences and disadvantages most especially to
those who are not knowledgeable enough and discreet in securing their vital information stored
in their personal social media apps. This study will serve as a foundation on how to secure and
protect personal data against unauthorized access. It would make social media apps users in
Cavite State University to be informed and obtain proper mechanism in securing their personal
data and how to be a responsible user of social media apps.

Students. This study will help the students to be able to have a comprehensive and enough
knowledge in securing their personal information and data. It will help them to be responsible
social media user and make them aware for the possible outcomes for their negligent actions
towards using and engaging to different social media sites. Moreover, the findings of this study
might uncover an unethical doings of students towards using social media unconsciously.

Professors. This study will serves for professors as a competent basis of security practices
regarding securing data and information stored in social media apps. It will be a big help for
them on how to be cautious and careful in terms of providing vital information in their social
media apps. Moreover, the findings of this study might discover different tactics of unauthorized
users that many professors aren’t aware of these strategies.

Faculty Members. This study will help faculty members to be extra careful in terms of using any
social media apps. This will provide enough security measures and method in securing their
personal data.

Future Researcher. This research will benefit future academics by providing a foundation of
knowledge for safeguarding and preserving personal data stored in various social media apps.
This research will be used as a reference for future scholars that want to look into the same
topic. This will also act as a guide for them to learn about sections or specific areas where they
may need to improve, allowing them to come up with new research or ideas related to their
chosen topic.

Scope and Limitation

The purpose of this study is to determine risk awareness and security measures among
Cavite State University-Main Campos social networking app users. The goal of this research is
to determine the security procedures used by users of social networking apps. The participants
in this study are Cavite State University students who utilize social media applications.

notion and its change. Some individuals seek news and exposure in a communication network
