Simulation Injection Testing

The Simulation Injection Testing allows the user to test the Power Control Modes on the DSE8xxx generator when it is
in parallel with the mains supply. The Simulation Injection Testing in the DSE Configuration Suite PC Software has
two sections, the Setup section used to draw the frequency or voltage curve, and the Simulation section used to inject
the values to the DSE module and obtain the generator response.
The frequency & voltage curves are drawn as required by the Utility Regulations for the Power Control Modes to prove
that the generator complies to the mains paralleling rules and conditions hence able to be used in the application.
The simulation injection is controlled via the DSE Configuration Suite PC Software or GenComm.

1 USING THE SIMULATION INJECTION TESTING TOOL IN THE DSE

CONFIGURATION SUITE PC SOFTWARE

NOTE: The Injection Port must be enabled in the DSE module from the Running Editor to be able to
accept the injecting control.

NOTE: The DSE module must be configured, and the Commissioning steps must be applied on the
generator before being able to utilise this tool in the mains paralleling application. The Commissioning & Four
Steps to Successful Synchronisation are detailed in the DSE modules operators manuals which are found on
our website: www.deepseaelectronics.com

NOTE: The Simulation Injection Testing tool is designed to work with version 6 or later of the DSE8610
MKII, DSE8620MKII, DSE8660MKII, DSE8910 and DSE8920 modules.

1.1 OPENING THE TOOL

The Simulation Injection Testing is accessed form the Tools menu of the DSE Configuration Suite PC Software as
shown below.

Open the DSE Configuration Suite

PC Software and go to Tools, click
on Simulation Injection Testing.

1.1.1 MENU AND TOOLBAR

The menu and toolbar are located at the top of the tool:

The File menu contains most of the commands in the toolbar. The toolbar is often a quicker way of accessing these
commands.

1.1.1.1 MENU

Icon Description
Create a new setup file
Open an existing file from disk or flash memory device

NOTE: The Save option only saves the current Setup page, Voltage or Frequency. It does not
save both Voltage and Frequency Setup graphs. Each of the Voltage and Frequency graphs must
be saved individually.

Save the currently open file, under a new name. You will be prompted to enter a filename. Once saved,
the software confirms it by showing the below message, click to continue.

Export to csv. Click to export the simulated curve into a csv file for use in an external spreadsheet
program.
Exit the tool. If the currently open file has changed since it was last saved, you will be prompted to save it.

1.1.1.2 TOOLBAR

The toolbar contains the most used commands from the menus and is often a quicker way of accessing these
commands. The user must refer to the Menu section for the descriptions of the similar icons.

Icon Description
Select the required instrument to draw its curve under the Setup tab or to test the generator through the
Simulated Simulate section. Options are:

1.2 SETUP & SIMULATE
Select the required instrument from the Simulated Value to draw its curve and to simulate the generator.

1.2.1 SETUP THE CURVES

Voltage

Draw the required Voltage graph that needs to be simulated with respect time.

Click and drag the

points on the graphs to
change the settings

Double click the left

mouse button to add a
point or right click on a
point to remove it.

Parameter Description
Voltage (PU) The Voltage Percent Unit represents the voltage level multiplied by the Nominal Voltage.
Time (s) Time in seconds.

Frequency

Draw the required Frequency graph that needs to be simulated with respect of time.

Click and drag the

points on the graphs to
change the settings

Double click the left

mouse button to add a
point or right click on a
point to remove it.

Parameter Description

1.2.2 SIMULATE

NOTE: Activate the Voltage & Frequency Injection Testing in the module’s Running Editor to connect the
DSE module to the Simulation Injection Testing tool.

NOTE: The Simulation must be carried on when the generator is running in parallel with the mains to test
the Power Control Modes or the Reactive Power Control Modes.

NOTE: The Voltage or Frequency values in the Setup page are drawn as required by Utility regulations.

When the DSE8xxx generator runs with its Voltage & Frequency Injection Testing active from the Running Editor, use
the tabs situated on the bottom of the Simulate page to start or stop the simulation. Start the simulation to inject the
values drawn in the Setup page into the module to override the Generator Voltage or the Generator Frequency
readings on the DSE module. This results in varying the kilowatt or the kvar production from the generator by following
the activated Power Control Mode’s curve. After testing, it’s possible to export the results to csv to generate a report
on the generator’s performance where the operator can compare the Frequency/Voltage against the power changes.

Click to start the simulation. The PC Software starts injecting the drawn Voltage or Frequency values to the
DSE8xxx causing to change the Generator Voltage or Frequency values in the module.
Click to pause the simulation. The PC Software stops injecting the Voltage or Frequency levels. After this,
clicking the resumes the simulation.
Click to stop the simulation. When is clicked again, the simulation restarts.

2 SIMULATE INJECTION THROUGH GENCOMM

NOTE: Injection Channel and Injection Value MUST be written in the same MODBUS write operation using
MODBUS Function Code 16 (Write to Multiple Holding Registers).

Simulation Injection Testing may be managed by third party MODBUS masters.

To simulate over the MODBUS, write the required function to the Injection Channel on GenComm Page 16 and
Register 32. The Injection Channel functions are as follows:

Injection Channel Function

0 No override
4 Override Voltage All L-N
8 Override Voltage All L-L
9 Override Frequency

The Injection Value must be constantly written to the GenComm Page 16 and Register 33 to change the voltage or
frequency as required. The Voltage Injection Value is in Percent Unit of the Nominal Voltage, the Frequency Injection
Value is in Hz. The scaler for each of the Injection Values is as follows:

Injection Type Injection Value

Voltage 0.001 PU
Frequency 0.01 Hz

When the writing to the Injection Value stops for 1 second, the overriding is stopped, and the measurement channels
return to normal operation.
