Teacher's Notes

 The target language for this activity is relative clauses.

"19 Down is a place where The Beatles were born."

"4 Across is a flag whose colours are red, white and blue."

etc.

 This grammar needs to have been taught beforehand.

 Students need to be divided up into pairs.
 The clues from "UK Culture" are listed on the corresponding "USA Culture" worksheet and vice versa. The
activity should run as follows:

Student A asks Student B for a clue, "What is 19 Down?"

Student B gives a clue trying to use relative clauses where possible, "19 Down is a place where The Beatles were
born."

Student B continues giving clues until Student A guesses the correct answer.

When Student A guesses correctly, they add it to the crossword. Allow students to help each other with spelling.

If Student A cannot guess the right answer, pass the go.

Process continues with Student B's turn, etc. until the grid is completed.

 If you have students you feel may struggle with the cultural aspect of the task let them whether they
want to complete the grid on UK or USA culture.
 Encourage students to tell their partner the information in brackets as this will help them a lot.
