PELM538: COMMUNICATION SKILLS FOR LEADERS-II

L-1 T-2 P-0 Credits: 2

Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to

 develop critical thinking skills employed in small groups and public speaking
 compose business communication documents with structural precision and verbal
accuracy
 formulate business queries and respond to any reason related to business situation
 use semantic and syntactic structure as per the advanced level of Common European
Framework
 employ reading speed and comprehension of business articles
 demonstrate consistent and appropriate language use in extended conversations and
discussions

Language Skills

Listening for Details: filling missing details, interpreting listening tracks, identifying
key and supporting ideas, taking detailed notes on information

Presentation Skills: do’s and don’ts of presentation skills, presenting information and
business proposals, making a short talk

Role Play and debate: useful vocabulary and phrases, assuming and reacting in different
business scenarios, interviewing a partner, debate, group-forecasting, negotiation skills,
debating pros and cons of a business decision

Comprehension Skills: identifying errors and superfluous words, identifying co-relation


of sentences and paragraphs, finding supporting ideas, identifying purpose,
different strategies of comprehension, reading texts of different genres and of
varying length, reading and interpreting non-linguistic texts, reading and understanding
incomplete texts

Business Correspondence: formats of business correspondence, writing and replying to


memo, notice, note, letter, report, and proposal

ASSOCIATED LANGUAGE SKILLS

Grammar: infinitives, gerunds, reference device, expressing cause and result, articles,
synthesis of sentences, complex sentences, conditional sentences, alternatives to if
Idioms and Proverbs: phrasal verbs, meaning and usage of idioms and proverbs, formal
and informal usage of language
