2009 OCAC Overseas Young Health Professionals Program Overview

Objective: 1. to enhance understanding of national public health policy, interior affairs, and development of politics and economy in Taiwan; 2. to establish connections with outstanding health professionals and assist Taiwan's participation in the World Health Organization. Time: March 29 ~ April 2, 2009 Eligibility: Ethnic Chinese, under 40 years old, physicians, residents/trainees, and students in medical schools and health professionals (optometrists, nutritionists, nurses, mental health counselors, chiropractors, etc.) Application Procedures:

Initial screening: submit application form to the nearest representative office or culture centers by January 31, 2009.

Final screening: final screening will be undertaken by the OCAC.

Result: You will be notified one month before the program if admitted.

Special Features of the Program: 1. Lecture and Panel Discussion: Invite scholars, professionals, and representatives of related departments to have an English lecture and panel discussion. 2. Visiting related official departments: Visit Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mainland Affairs Council, Department of Health, Bureau of National Health Insurance and academic medical center or regional teaching hospitals. 3. Bilateral Dialogue: Dialogue with young physicians or medical professionals in Taiwan and exchange ideas about Taiwan public health affairs and medical issues. 4. Two-day trip to Hsinchu and Tainan. * The activities may adjust due to the availability of the visited unit schedule. Programs Rules: 1. Please do not apply for program if you have participated in any OCAC sponsored program within last three years. 2. Participants are required to purchase their international airline tickets in advance. Participants will be entitled to an airfare reimbursement (in cash). Please bring original receipts and e-tickets to the program. Reimbursement amounts will vary according to the geographic location (culture centers) from which the application was sent. 3. The OCAC will afford the fees for the program (including meals, accommodation and transportation in Taiwan). The dependents or friends of yours will be excluded due to limited budget. 4. If the group of selected/ recommended applicants are less than 20 in total, this

program is subject to be cancelled.
