College Research Reflection

1. List the campuses you plan on applying to or have already applied to. Highlight the three most
important criteria you used in determining where to apply.
The two colleges that I applied to are Morningside University and Doane University. When deciding
to apply to these two schools, I made sure they both had excellent academics, golf programs, and
resources both in and outside of the campus.
2. Which campus is the one you would most like to attend? Explain why this campus is your first
choice compared to the others.
I chose to attend Morningside University because it met all of my requirements and the environment.
The nature surrounding the school fascinated me. In addition, it felt like the school was one big family.
Everyone was willing to help anyone at any time.
3. What will be your intended major? How does this major relate to your chosen career? What
resources do these campuses have to support you in this career field?
My intended major will be Business General. This major relates to my chosen career because being a
professional golfer requires you to build your own business. There will be many sponsorships and
endorsements you have to work with throughout your career. Morningside University brings back
former students that have started their own business to tell current students about their journey. They
believe that experience is one of the best ways to learn, so this is one of the many ways they
incorporate this into their teaching.
4. How do the costs of attendance compare at each campus? How do you plan to cover the costs of
attendance if you are accepted?
The cost of tuition with everything included (room, meals, and fees) at Morningside University is
$45,680 a year. On the other hand, it costs $48,380 to attend Doane University per year. To cover
those expenses, I will try and get as many scholarships as possible from the schools themselves and
from local businesses/organizations. For instance, The First Tee of the Coachella Valley has two
scholarships that are available for active students.
5. What application types are used by each campus and when are the deadlines? Have you met all
requirements to apply on time?
Both colleges used online applications and have no application deadlines as of now. I applied to both
colleges this past November and was accepted.
6. Are you required to take any admissions tests to apply? If so, which ones are accepted and which
ones did you choose to take? How did you make this choice?
Both universities did not require any form of testing to apply; for example, SAT and ACT scores.
They have both stated that they moved to test-optional because of COVID-19 reasons.
7. Do any of the campuses require letters of recommendation, essays, auditions, or portfolios? If
so, how do you plan on acquiring these documents and what else do you need to do to prepare for
these requirements?
No, there were no requirements for letters of recommendation, essays, auditions, etc.
