I used Tamiya Panel Line
Accent Color (Black) on the
engine to enhance the detail
in the mouldings. This is not
completely necessary, but it
does help to make the bike

if you want to get a real
cool-looking metallic finish,
always apply such paints
over black (flat, semi-gloss

This will make them look
more realistic. Combining
different finishes of black
paint you can easily get
flat or gloss metal finishes.

” The Delta HF was produced

in the second half of the 1980s
and took part in the World
Rally Championship from
1987 to 1988, won two World
Championship titles and took
first place in numerous races
such as the prestigious Monte

development, the Lancia Delta

until 1993, won another five

EAST
When Tamiya released their brand-new
KV-1 ‘1941 early Production’ kit in 2020,
it was a fairly safe bet that its designers
would not take long to sharpen their
pencils once more to create its partner,
the blockhouse KV-2. And so it came to
pass when, as we can see in this feature,
a new kit arrived of this monstrous
Soviet machine. Spencer Pollard builds
Tamiya’s latest 1:35 kit…

O
f course this is not the first time that this vehicle has
been kitted by Tamiya in 1:35, their 1977 release being
a staple diet for Soviet Armour fans until Trumpeter
got in the act with a kit of their own. Having built that
legacy kit, I was keen to see how this newer offering would
go together and having not seen the 2020 KV-1, I was able to
assess it with completely fresh eyes. As time would tell and
parts glued together, disappointment was very much not on
the list of conclusions… U

that it is seemingly impossible

All of the images that seem to

That being so, it is far easier to

MINIART, UKRAINE
www.creativemodels.co.uk
Two new 1:35 figure sets are on release
from MiniArt, from opposing sides of the
WW2 Eastern Front. 'Soviet Officers at
Field Briefing' comprises five standing
figures of Red Army tank officers planning
their next move. The figures sport a
tanker's boiler suit, leather coat and
standard Soviet battledress and three are
wearing/carrying the TSh-4 tanker's helmet.
Detail is fantastic and the poses are natural.
'Totenkopf Division Khakiv 1943' provides
the modeller with five seated/leaning
figures in heavy winter uniforms and are
sculpted in poses that would suit
A new feature for MiniArt is the inclusion
of resin heads which, by the nature of
casting this material, can offer better detail
on all sides of the head, plus no mould-
release lines whose removal can erode
detail. They are extremely well done and
capture the sullen expressions of these
frozen troops very well. Again, excellent
detail and great poses. Finally, we have a
pack of 1:35 'Italian Traffic Signs 1930s-40s'
which includes several different styles of
post plus decals for the signs themselves,
ideal for Italian Front dioramas. More

ET MODEL, CHINA
www.etmodeller.com
ET Model is an aftermarket producer
that has been making top-notch
modelling goodies for many years.
The newest of their sets to arrive
are made via 3D printing technology
which is taking the hobby by storm,
offering incredible detail and definition
in the resin-like plastic the technique
uses. We have received a bumper box
of their new items, and reviewed here
are the first three of them; 1:35 tracks
sets for the WW2 German Elefant
tank-destroyer and T-34 550mm
stamped links (Type 1940), a pack of
Bosch headlamps and rear lights and
in 1:48, an F100-PW afterburner and
exhaust nozzle for the Revell and
GWH F-15 Eagle kits.
The pink resin of the track sets is
rather hard to photograph, but you
can hopefully see the detail and
precision of the parts shown here. The
afterburner/exhaust comes in more
traditional grey resin and this makes
the detail easier to observe and it is
quite simply amazing! The undercuts
incorporated within the nozzle's
control struts are extraordinary and
will bring the back end of an F-15 to
life. More next time.

ICM, UKRAINE
www.icm.com.ua
ICM are soon to release a 1:48 kit of the Bristol Beaufort
(wonderful news) so what better to prepare for it than with a
torpedo and its trailer? The kit provides a Mk.XII 18-inch aircraft-
launched torpedo (a type also launched from MTBs) plus its
handling trolley. The weapon is finely detailed but the trolley is no
token inclusion; it is treated to a multi-part breakdown and will
look superb parked alongside an RAF Coastal Commend Beaufort.

Brengun have a large range of small-scale kits covering some obscure subjects and
they are lovely little things. Our favourite this month is the 1:144 Texaco fuel truck.
In the early 1930s, the 'Texas Co' (later Texaco) created the magnificent Texaco
Doodlebug fuel truck in an effort to update and modernise its fleet. It's a wonderful
streamlined design and the only thing wrong with Brengun's kit is that it should be
in 1:24! Seriously though, a gorgeous little (55mm long) resin model of a fabulous
subject. Also new is a neat little airship tug based on the British WWI Mk.IV tank
and a German A7V tank from the same era.

WAR IN THE BALKANS – THE BATTLE FOR GREECE AND CRETE 1940-1941
JEFFREY PLOWMAN, PEN & SWORD
www.pen-and-sword.co.uk

This book was first published in 2013, but has just been reprinted which gives readers a new opportunity to grab this
superb description of what took place in the period when Commonwealth forces seemed to go from one defeat to
another. The expeditionary force sent to Greece was intended to halt or at least delay the Axis advance into the Balkan
area. Ultimately this was not successful, but we now know that it significantly delayed the German invasion of Russia,
and the Balkan war had a wider impact. The Commonwealth forces were evacuated, with many going to Crete. The
German invasion of this Mediterranean island was tougher than they expected, and decimated the Fallschirmjäger as a
major force. This book is packed with photos showing the conflict from both sides, and while some photos have been
published before, many of the pictures are extremely useful for modellers. Highly recommended. CLS

ARMOURED WARFARE AND THE FALL OF FRANCE 1940

ANTHONY TUCKER-JONES, PEN & SWORD
www.pen-and-sword.co.uk

From the outbreak of WW2 until May 1940, the period of Phoney War saw Britain, France and Germany getting their
armoured forces prepared for the coming battles. When conflict erupted, the German forces swept through Western
Europe in a matter of weeks, despite the numerical strength of their opposition. This softback book in the Images of
War series, first published in 2013 and now reprinted, describes the campaign and provides the reader with a very
good summary of the key events. The highlight of the book has to be the photographs, carefully chosen to illustrate
the key vehicle types, and occupying about 80% of the pages. Some of the photos are very slightly fuzzy, but the
choice of the pictures is excellent, with the selection showing vehicles, aircraft, scenery and troops. It is unfortunate
that the photos of French vehicles invariably show destroyed of captured tanks. A very good and inexpensive
summary, this book will satisfy the majority of readers and give plenty of ideas for models. CLS

I BROUGHT YOU SOME

HARD-BOILED EGGS
AND SOME NUTS...
At TMMI, we are extremely lucky to
have the chance to experience some
wonderful model kits across a huge
variety of subjects, whether they are the
more traditional tanks, aircraft and car or
something a little more unusual...

T
he latest to arrive at the TMMI office certainly falls into the latter
category! It’s a 1:12 kit of a Ford Model T and the passengers
are none-other than two of the most famous comedy actors
of all time; Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. The model comes
from Italian manufacturers ‘Zeta Kit’ and they have captured the
likenesses of the pair to a breathtaking level of accuracy, thanks to
the skills of artist Daniele “Danko” Angelozzi. The car is impressive
too, comprising large resin castings for the body, injection-moulded
wheels and suspension, soft vinyl tyres, photo-etched metal radiator
face and decals. We will, of course, be bringing you a full-build feature
on this fabulous model soon, in TMMI! l
