1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this Method Statement is to describe the measures and ways of
completing block work on this project. The works shall be carried out in compliance
with the drawings and project specifications.

3. ACCESS/EGRESS:

 Adequate access and egress should be provided to the site. Access will be through
designated entrance and exit pathways only.

5. METHOD DESCRIPTION

5.1 General

a. All reference shop drawings issued for construction shall be ready.


b. Obtained block supplier and material approval prior to start work.

5.2 Delivery, Storage and Handling.

a. Store masonry units on elevated platform or pallet in a dry and firm level ground
b. Away from vehicular traffic to avoid contamination.
c. Blocks to be stored as near as possible to the work, keeping re-handling
minimum.
d. Store sand materials where grading and other required characteristic can be
maintained and avoid contamination or inclusion of other materials is prevented.
e. Store cementations materials on elevated platform, under cover, and in dry
locations.
f. Store masonry accessories including metal items in an enclosed and dry location
to prevent corrosion and accumulation of dirt.
g. Block shall be handled properly to prevent damage.

5.3 Methodology:

a. The masonry units will be supplied by the approved manufacturer and will comply
the requirement of ASTM C140.
b. The masonry walls shall be as shown on approved drawing and schedule.
c. Setting out of Block work shall be made as per drawing and inspected by
consultant.
d. For site batching of mortar mix, mixer machine shall be used.
e. It is good to have dampen the masonry units before laying, and to lay the mortar
beds in shorter lengths to reduce rapids loss of water from the mortar through
evaporation before the next course is being laid.
f. As the masonry blocks is being erected, lay stainless mesh reinforcement in the
mortar joints at every 2nd layer.
g. Stiffener column shall be provided in the middle of block work for increasing the
strength and stability.

5.4 Mortar and grout Mixes

a. Block Mortar shall have mix proportion complying with ASTM 270 as specified in
Volume 2 Part I Section 8, Masonry in the division of 2.3
b. Mixing shall be carried out by means of manual mixer and a measuring box shall
be used to ensure compliance with the design mix.
c. Freshly mix mortar shall be protected at all times to avoid contamination and
prevent excessive evaporation.

5.5 Laying, cutting and jointing

a. Masonry laying shall be done by skilled and experienced manpower.


b. Safe, rigid and approved scaffolding shall be provided for workers who are
working at elevated areas.
c. Concrete surfaces that will receive block shall be properly prepared by roughening
or removing laitance and be clean prior to laying of mortar and blocks.
d. All block work shall be set out before laying commences to ensure correct
bonding and minimum cutting. Power tools shall be used for cutting of block works
if necessary.

6. QUALITY CONTROL

6.1 Inspection

a) Significant stages of work shall be ensured by project/site engineer to be


Confirming to the drawing and specifications including;
 Layout of block work.
 Mortar Mix proportion
 Laying & Cutting of Block work
 Alignment and plumb of block work.
 Laying & fixing of Accessories
 Curing of block work
 Filling the dune sand and consolidation
b) QC engineer/QC inspector shall monitor all above mentioned stages.
c) Inspection request shall be submitted to consultant as per requirement.
d) All the work should read in conjunction with project quality plan and
Project HSE plan.
