Location of conference and Rational

This conference will take place at 9am on Monday 4th April, 2022 at the VIP room of the
Hasley Crawford Stadium, Trinidad. This location was selected as this is the stadium that the
respective games will be hosted, and it is a central location as most media houses are located
in the Port-of-Spain area. The VIP room has a capacity of 300 people allowing for ample
space for the media to set up any required equipment/cameras as well as ability of all invited
guests to socially distance. The conference will have no more than 75 specially invited guests
including the media.
Timing of the conference
The conference will take place at 9am and have a runtime of no longer than 1hour 30mins.
This is to ensure that members of both print and digital media are able to meet their required
deadlines. In order for the story to be published in the local newspapers the next day all
stories must be submitted before 3pm the day before. Additionally, this timing ensures that all
video footage captured can be edited and submitted before the 7pm news the same day.

Coordination and who’s involved

Due to the covid-19 pandemic the conference will have to be conducted in a hybrid manner
(in-person and online) therefore it is imperative for confirmation of in-person attendees and
online attendees well in advance to be able to coordinate the requirements. Communication of
all parties involved will be done via email, telephone conversation and some postal mail.
There will be need for signage, tables and chairs, decoration and sound/video setup to ensure
the best quality capture for the media. Persons involved will be:
-Audio/visual Company
-Caterers
-Communications team at CANA
-Admin assistants at CANA
-Event coordinators

Key Messages/Newsworthy
The introduction of a competition such as the CANA Cup is to continue to grow the elite and
high-performance level of the women’s game. A competition such as this will shine a much-
needed light on the women’s game and the high calibre athletes and technical staff involved.
This, in keeping with FIFA’s current drive for the development of the women’s game and
women’s education, hopefully will attract many young players and coaches to join the game
and lend to the continued sustainability of women’s football in the region.
Additionally, this competition is quite attractive to members of the media as both Jamaica
and Trinidad and Tobago are ranked 51st and 73rd in the world respectively making them the
highest ranked female teams in the English-speaking Caribbean. A number of whose players
are associated with highly ranked football clubs globally including Liana Hinds (TT)-
Hibernian Women and Khadijah “Bunny” Shaw (JA captain)- Manchester City.

Speakers and Rationale

● The Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Sport of Trinidad and Tobago
● Jolene Smith, Chairwoman of CANA
● Laura Bryant, Head of Marketing at CANA
● Karyn Forbes, Captain of the Trinidad and Tobago Senior Women's Football Team
● Khadija Shaw, Captain of the Jamaican Senior Women's Football Team
● Kenwyn Jones, Head coach of the Trinidad and Tobago Senior Women's Football
Team
● Hubert Busby Jr., Head coach of the Jamaica Senior Women's Football Team

The identified speakers were determined as key stakeholders within the event. The Minister
of Sport of Trinidad and Tobago is a key stakeholder as the event is being hosted in Trinidad
and the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Team are competing. Having the support of the local
government ministry for such an event would promote the game locally and perhaps lend to
the formation of an MOU between the TTFA and the ministry in the promotion of football.
The inclusion of the respective representatives of CANA was important given that the
organisation was hosting the event and as such would have the most insight and information
into the logistics, aims, and drivers of the competition as well as the location, ticket prices
and dates. Furthermore, they would be able to speak about the health and safety protocols that
would be in place regarding the pandemic and highlight the presence of police and fire
services on game day lending to a sense of safety of the event for all patrons expected to
attend. The coaches and team captains will be able to speak on the strengths and spirit within
their respective teams and what the public might be able to expect from both camps. This will
also provide them with an opportunity to make a public request for the team's fans to attend
the games and support as well as encouraging all sporting enthusiasts.
Furthermore, this forum allows them to speak of the importance of women in sports/football,
the growth of the game from the past to now and the abilities of some of the players with
potential to reach clubs around the world at international level.
