EXPLANATION AND SCHEDULE OF PHASE I

FOR THE BACHELOR PROGRAM

In the next few paragraphs we will explain all the assignments that belong
to Phase I; you can also read more about them in your Student Handbook. You
may access this Handbook in the AIU Online Library located in the AIU online
resources page or by clicking on the following link: Bachelor Program Student
Handbook

We ask you to please read and understand the explanations, examples


and videoconferences available for each one of the Phase I courses so you
better understand what AIU expects from you. You can always look for these
documents in your student section under Document Management and click on
Phase I Documents. If you need help, take a look at the videoconference to know
where to find this information AIU online resources page.

We recommend you to click on the following link to help you know how to

All of the Phase I assignments may be completed through these TWO


options:
 ONLINE (Recommended): You will simply need to answer the
questions that the course will ask you from your student section
when you click on START THE COURSE.
 OFFLINE: This means that you can save the format in your
computer, complete the format entirely and then submit it to AIU.

Please complete one assignment at a time for Phase I:

1. Communication and Investigation (Comprehensive Resume)


You will be asked to provide AIU with information of your past
experience (Retrospective) along with the goals you have planned for
the future (Prospective) and the Current activities you are responsible
for at the present time. When you start of this course, please send us a
copy of your ID through your student section questionnaire. The ID can
be a passport or a driver license, for example. This is part of the first
series of questions that you will see when you first enter your student
section.

2. Organization Theory (Portfolio):


Look for all the documents that can be used as supporting evidence of
your previous completed studies and degrees. Remember to follow
your beginning, middle and current state of your career. For a better

understanding please read chapter 3.2.2 of your Bachelors Program
Student Handbook

It is important to scan all the documents that you believe are relevant
based on your academic and professional past experience and be
ready to send them through your student section when you start this
course. Although it is not required, you can mail a copy of all of your
documents to us.

To send your official transcripts or certificates from different schools


where you have studied, please use regular mail and send them to the

3. Experiential Learning (Autobiography)


The autobiography is an opportunity for you to relive the past,
document the present and plan for the future. In this course, you will
create your own autobiography. Please follow the instructions on
chapter 3.2.4 of your Bachelors Student Handbook, visit your student
section, or use the online resources at the Online Library.

4. Academic Evaluation (Questionnaire)


A self-discovery of yourself. Through the questionnaire you will
complete the answer sheet with multiple choice questions that are
located in the Bachelors Student Handbook chapter 3.2.3. or in your
student section online mode. We hope this assignment gives you a
different perspective of where you are today and how you can improve
for the future.

5. Evaluation Matrix (Professional Evaluation, Evaluation Matrix):


To complete this assignment, we suggest that you ask people who
know you to evaluate your abilities. Even though your past work is not
related to your studies at AIU, there are some universal characteristics
as leadership, creativity, communication skills that are very important
to evaluate your academic future. Please see chapter 3.2.5 of the
Bachelors Student Handbook for a deeper explanation.

6. Fundament of knowledge (Integration Chart):
For this assignment, you must fill out just the last column of the format
provided in the offline section and answer the questions in the online
mode of your student section. The purpose of this assignment is to
open up the eyes of the student for the future. For a better
understanding, go to your Bachelors Student Handbook and read
chapter 3.2.7.

7. Development of Graduate Study (Guarantee of Academic Degree):


Complete the chart in the offline mode or answer the questions in the
online student section. The different areas of development cover your
life’s areas – academic, professional, personal – and correspond with
time. Move along the chart in answering the questions and planning for
your career and life in general. Use the definitions for the educational
charts and the alumni profile that are well explained in your Bachelors
Student Handbook chapter 3.2.8.

8. Fundamental Principles I (Philosophy of Education):


In order to complete the last assignment for Phase I, please check the
Bachelors Student Handbook in chapter 3.2.9 and write an essay
between 1 to 3 pages long about the Philosophy of Education (What
do you think about distance education?). We recommend you to also
to read chapter 1.4 of your Bachelors Student Handbook which covers
the topic of Andragogy.

If by any chance, you think that the last 5 assignments do not apply to
your particular situation, we ask you to stay in touch with your
academic tutor so that you may continue to Phase II of your studies.

Tentative Schedule to be used as an example for your Bachelors


Program at AIU

We strongly believe that you may complete each one of the Phases of the
AIU program based on this tentative schedule:

1. Phase I: 10 credits (1-2 weeks)


2. Phase II (Curriculum Design): 3 credits (2-4 weeks)
3. Phase II: Developing courses in Curriculum Design, 35-40 credits (2-6
weeks per course)
4. Phase III: Final Project: 4-6 weeks.
5. Graduation Procedures: 12-18 weeks

It is very important for you to know that AIU respects the time that each of the
students spends in their own program without hard deadlines or pressure to
complete a course. We just ask for the student to be in full communication with
his/her academic advisor and academic tutors and submit at least one
assignment per month to stay active in the university.
