Brief chosen:
Magazine
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning
and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)

Product 1
My magazine covers will have one male and one female on both covers, representing two different social
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
groups. My first cover will be about mental health, it will have a male model (a non-stereotypical
representation) who is wise confident. This subject matter pertains to the aspiring audience that want to
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
develop and grow. The type faces I will use will be more formal (serif) and the colour palette will be
simple (no more than 2 or 3 colours) - the picture will most likely be in black and white. My second
magazine will be about an up and coming female artist, the model will be presented as self-confident
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
and successful with her own aesthetic and creative directive choice. This fits with the aspirational nature
of the audience. I will also be using stereotypical props and locations to establish each of my
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
mise-en-scenes. This fits in with Hall's ideas of representations. The type faces on this magazine will be
sans-serif, reflecting the modern or progressive look. The colour palette will suit the subject matter, this
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
relates with Barthes ideas on signs connoting meaning but also Neale's on genre. I will borrow genre
convention form existing lifestyle magazines such as coverlines and photography. To show industry
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
compliance and an understating of regulation, I will make sure the magazines carry the IPSO logo.

My website will be optimised for mobile phones as these will be the preferred method of viewing for my
young target audience. I will ask readers to use social media to share the message of the magazine by
creating hashtags for each story to increase engagement and use the ideas of Henry Jenkins. The
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
website will also crosspromote other Hearst UK publications and will meet with the IPSO regulations so
that users feel protected and feel confident about sharing their stories in accordance with the ideas of
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Livingstone and Lunt. The website will take ideas from Heart UK branding but also have a modern
up-to-date use of media language elements to meet the expectations of the target audience. The
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
navigation bar will mimic topic sections on the contents pages. Typefaces will be sans-serif throughout
with a simple lexis and direct mode-of-address to increase engagement. I will use a bright pastel colour
palette to appeal to the young, aspirational audience. My video elements will be based around TikTok as
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
this will create a greater level of engagement and will feature my two cover stars.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of
the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
On my website I will posit promotions for my print magazine in the form of subscription offers; as well as
this, promote the many other Hurst magazines. Also, Within my contents pages I will use the call to
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
action to promote the website which has audio-visual content. I wil make the website mobile-friendly,
seeing it how it performs on different phones and optimising so it fits all mobile devices. To create
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
engagement through social media, I will use multiple social media apps (like Instagram, Twitter, TikTok)
that pertain to the young audience - links to these will be on the website.
