2nd Summative Examination

1. Solve for the Population Standard Deviation and Sample Standard deviation of the following
scores.
X F X X-Ⴟ (𝑋 − Ⴟ)²
46 - 50 1 48 48 22 484
41 - 45 3 43 129 17 289
36 - 40 4 38 152 12 144
31 - 35 5 33 165 7 49
26 - 30 8 28 224 2 4
21 - 25 7 23 161 3 9
16 - 20 6 18 108 8 64
11 - 15 2 13 26 13 169
6 - 10 3 8 24 18 324
1 - 5 1 3 3 23 529
N = 40 1,040 2,065

Mean = ∑X/n SD = √∑(X-X)2/n-1 ∂ = √∑(X-X)2/n

= 1,040/40 = √2,065/40-1 = √2,065/40
=26 = 7.28 = 7.19

2. Fritz obtained a score of 92 in English and 88 in Math. In which subject did he perform well?
Compute for the z-score. Construct a curve that represent the given data, then give your analysis.

English Mathematics
X = 92 X = 88
Ⴟ =95 Ⴟ = 80
s -3 s -4

Z of English = X-Ẍ/s Z of math = X-Ẍ/s

= 92-95/-3 = 88-80/-4
=1 = -2

The raw score X = 92 is 1 standard

deviation above the mean of 95.
The raw score X = 88 is -2 standard
deviation above the mean of 80.

3. From item 2, use the z-score results of English and Math subject. In the T-score, the mean is 50
and the standard deviation is 10. Solve for the T-score equivalent.

4. What is the importance of the different measures of central tendency in assessing the performance
of the students in the classroom?

Distribution refers to the frequencies of different responses. Measures of central tendency give
you the average for data in assessing the performance of the students. Measures of variability show the
spread or dispersion of the dataset of the students. The measures of central tendency allow teachers to
determine the typical numerical point in a set of score. The scores of students are distributed on a range
from lowest score to the highest score. Measures of central tendency tell teacher where the center value
lies in the distribution of scores data.

5. How do we interpret the performance of the students in relation to normal curve?

The normal curve tells the value of performance of the students. For example, if most
students meet the expected scores, their graph are at center and it is interpreted by the normal
curve, and when their scores are above and below the expectation the curve are away from the
graph.
