Discuss the following:

1. According to Social Foundation of Curriculum, “Knowledge serve as an agent of change”.


How does knowledge change us, as a person?
Knowledge is obviously valuable in the sense of securing our success, it is a great value in
practical terms of our life. We expand and grow as a person as we gain new knowledge. Gaining
knowledge will help us become more self-empowered. It helps us understand ourselves better,
but also understand and appreciate the others as well. Knowledge enhances our thinking, it helps
us solve problems, and knowledge also improves our reasoning and critical thinking.

2. Why is it said, that designing a curriculum is a very challenging task of a teacher?


Designing a curriculum is said to be labor-intensive. Developing differentiated instruction
puts pressure on the teacher to create instruction and find materials that are conducive to each
student's learning needs. Teachers may not have the time or may lack the experience or skills to
create such a plan.

3. What is the importance of congruency of the different component of curriculum in the


teaching-learning process?
Congruency of the different component of curriculum is very important in teaching-
learning process for a teacher to achieve his/her objectives and goals in teaching. When there is
congruency in his/her lesson, topic is clearly stated to the students what his/her lesson about.
Thus, incongruent component curriculum may lead to confusion of the learner.

4. In designing a curriculum, what component is said to be very crucial? Why?


Content selection is a very crucial stage in curriculum development. Since, the subject
matter or content must be selected and organized to develop learning activities, skills, processes,
and attitudes. Criteria for the selection of subject matter content or knowledge for the curriculum
must be self-sufficient, significant, valid, interesting, Utilize, learnability and feasibility. And it also
develops the three domains of learning, namely the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills,
and considers the learners’ cultural aspects.

5. Should teaching methods consider only the expertise of the teacher? Why?
Teaching methods should also stimulate the learners desire to develop the cognitive,
affective, psychomotor, social and spiritual domain of the students. In the choice of the teaching
methods, learning styles of the students should also be considered. Every teaching methods
should lend to the development of the learning outcomes.
