CLOSING MASS FOR THE YEAR OF FAITH

INTRODUCTORY RITES

ENTRANCE
While the Presider and the concelebrants proceed to the altar, Entrance Hymn is sung.

When the Presider comes to the altar, he makes the customary reverence with the ministers and kisses it.

GREETING
Presider:

I n the name of the Father, and of the Son,


and of the Holy Spirit.

People:

Amen.

Presider:

The Lord be with you.

When the Bishop presides the Mass.

Peace be with you.

People:

And with your spirit.

Presider:

My dear brothers and sisters,


we gather in thanksgiving and celebration
at the conclusion of the Year of Faith.
We have been invited to enter the “door of faith” (Acts 14:27)
which is always open for us,
ushering us into the life of communion with God
and offering entry into his Church.
To enter through that door
is to set out on a journey that lasts a lifetime.
The Year of Faith summoned us
to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord.
It is the love of Christ that fills our hearts
and impels us to proclaim our faith.
To cross the threshold of faith
is an invitation to commit ourselves
to new evangelization
in order to rediscover the joy of believing
and the enthusiasm for communicating the faith.
Today as in the past,
the Lord sends us through the highways of the world
to proclaim his Gospel to all the peoples of the earth (cf. Mt 28:19).

RITE OF BLESSING AND SPRINKLING OF HOLY WATER
Then the Presider blesses water with which to sprinkle the people as a sign of repentance and as a reminder of
their baptism. The ministers bring the vessel with the water to the Presider who stands at the chair. The
Presiderinvites all to pray, in these or similar words:

Presider:

D ear brothers and sisters,


let us humbly beseech the Lord our God
to bless this water he has created,
which will be sprinkled on us
as a memorial of our Baptism.
May he help us by his grace
to remain faithful to the Spirit we have received.

All pray in silence for a brief period. The Presider then continues:

A lmighty ever-living God,


who willed that through water,
the fountain of life and the source of purification,
even souls should be cleansed
and receive the gift of eternal life;
be please, we pray, to X bless this water,
by which we seek protection on this your day, O Lord.
Renew the living spring of your grace within us
and grant that by this water we may be defended
from all ills of spirit and body,
and so approach you with hearts made clean
and worthily receive your salvation.
Through Christ our Lord.

People:

Amen.

When the invocation over the water is finished. The Presider, accompanied by the deacons, sprinkling the people
and the walls with the holy water; then, when he has returned to the sanctuary, meanwhile the following antiphon
is sung.

Sprinkle me with hyssop, O Lord, and I shall be cleansed;


wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.

After the sprinkling, Presider returns to the chair and. when the singing is finished, standing with hands joined.
says:

M ay almighty God cleanse us of our sins,


and through the celebration of this Eucharist
make us worthy to share at the table of his Kingdom

People:

Let us pray.

A lmighty ever-living God,


whose will is to restore all things
in your beloved Son, the King of the Universe,
grant, we pray,
that the whole creation, set free from slavery,
may render your majesty service
and ceaselessly proclaim your praise.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son,


who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever

I n those days, all the tribes of Israel came to David in Hebron

“Here we are, your bone and your flesh.
In days past, when Saul was our king,
it was you who led the Israelites out and brought them back.
And the LORD said to you,
‘You shall shepherd my people Israel
and shall be commander of Israel.’ “
When all the elders of Israel came to David in Hebron,
King David made an agreement with them there before the LORD,
and they anointed him king of Israel.

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians

B rothers and sisters:


Let us give thanks to the Father,
who has made you fit to share
in the inheritance of the holy ones in light.
He delivered us from the power of darkness
and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

He is the image of the invisible God,


the firstborn of all creation.

T he rulers sneered at Jesus and said,


“He saved others, let him save himself
if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God.”
Even the soldiers jeered at him.
As they approached to offer him wine they called out,
“If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.”
Above him there was an inscription that read,
“This is the King of the Jews.”

Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying,


“Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us.”
The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply,
“Have you no fear of God,
for you are subject to the same condemnation?
And indeed, we have been condemned justly,
for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes,
but this man has done nothing criminal.”

“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

“Amen, I say to you,
today you will be with me in Paradise.”

PROFESSION OF FAITH
The Presider invites the people to renew their baptismal promises:

D ear brothers and sisters,


through the paschal mystery
we have been buried with Christ in baptism,
so that we may rise to a new life.
Now, after hearing the Word of God,
let us renew the profession of faith made at our baptism
and recommit ourselves
to love and serve faithfully God
and our brothers and sisters in his holy Church.

Presider:

Do you believe in God the Father Almighty,


creator of heaven and earth?

R./ Credo, Credo, Amen (to be sung)

Presider:

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,


who was born of the Virgin Mary,
was crucified, died, and was buried, rose from the dead,

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
Presider:

My dear brothers and sisters, renewal is God’s dream and desire


his on going work in the world. His renewing Spirit moves through
this suffering world, offers the gift of newness to all and animates
the Church to be a sign and servant of the renewal of all things in
Christ. Let us humbly and confidently turn to him in prayer as we
say:

Lord hear our prayer

For the Holy Father, Pope Francis, and for all bishops, that God will
give them the grace and wisdom to touch the lives and hearts of
people. Let us pray to the Lord.

For the Church throughout the world, that even beyond the Year of
Faith may continue to be a time of spiritual renewal and personal
encounter with Christ for people everywhere. Let us pray to the Lord.

For the sick and the suffering, that they may experience Christ even
in the midst of their illness and needs. Let us pray to the Lord.

For all families, that they may grow closer to one another and to
Christ. Let us pray to the Lord.

For all of us gathered, that our deepening of faith during the Year of
Faith help us to long for justice and peace in the world and grow in
a desire to share the saving truths of Jesus Christ in our homes, places
of work and community. Let us pray to the Lord.

Let us pray in silence for our personal intentions. (Pause)


Let us pray to the Lord.

Presider:

G od, our loving Father, we recognize your presence and action as


you remained faithful to us in spite of our infidelities. We beg for
forgiveness as we hear anew your call to renewal. Help us commit
to a radical conversion of mind and heart.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

PREPARATION OF THE ALTAR


AND THE GIFTS
During the preparation of the gifts, the Offertory song is sung and the altar table is prepared.

The Presider takes the paten with the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar says:

B lessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.


Through your goodness
we have this bread to offer,
which earth has given
and human hands have made.
It will become for us the bread of life.

People:

Blessed be God forever.

The deacon pours wine and a little water into the chalice saying inaudibly:

By the mystery of this water and wine


may we come to share in the divinity of Christ,
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
Then the Presider takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar says:

B lessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.


Through you goodness
We have this wine to offer,
fruit of the vine and work of human hands.
It will become our spiritual drink.

People:

Blessed be God forever.

The Presider bows and says inaudibly:

Lord God, we ask you to receive us


and be pleased with the sacrifice we offer you
with humble and contrite hearts.
He may now incense the offerings and the altar. Afterwards the deacon or a minister incenses the Presider and
people.

Next the Presider stands at the side of the altar and washes his hands saying inaudibly:

Lord, wash away my iniquity; cleanse me from my sin.


Standing at the center of the altar, facing the people, he extends and then joins his hands, saying:

Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours


may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
People:

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands


for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his Church.

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS


Presider:

A s we offer you, O Lord, the sacrifice


by which the human race is reconciled to you,
we humbly pray
that your Son himself may bestow on all nations
the gifts of unity and peace.

Through Christ our Lord.

I t is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,


always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,

as eternal Priest and King of all creation,
so that, by offering himself on the altar of the Cross
as spotless sacrifice to bring us peace,
he might accomplish the mysteries of human redemption
and, making all created things subject to his rule,
he might present to the immensity of your majesty
an eternal and universal kingdom,
a kingdom of truth and life,
a kingdom of holiness and grace,
a kingdom of justice, love and peace.

And so, with Angels and Archangels,

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II
The Priest, with hands extended, says:

Y ou are indeed Holy, O Lord,


the fount of all holiness.

He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offerings, says:

M ake holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,


by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,

He joins his hands and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and the chalice together, saying:

so that they may become for us


the Body and X Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
He joins his hands.
In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and distinctly, as the nature of
these words requires.

A t the time he was betrayed


and entered willingly into his Passion,

He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,


and gave it to his disciples, saying:

He bows slightly.

T AKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,


AND EAT OF IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and genuflects in adoration.
After this, he continues:

I n a similar way, when supper was ended,


He takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took the chalice


and, once more giving thanks,
he gave it to his disciples, saying:
He bows slightly.

T AKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,


AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW
AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU
AND FOR MANY
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

He shows the chalice to the people, places it on the corporal, and genuflects in adoration.

Then he says:

The mystery of faith.

And the people continue, acclaiming:

We proclaim your Death, O Lord,


and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

Then the Priest, with hands extended, says:

T herefore, as we celebrate
the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,
we offer you, Lord,
the Bread of life
and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be in your presence and minister to you.

Humbly we pray
that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.

Celebrant or One Concelebrant:

R emember, Lord, your Church,


spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with Francis our Pope
and Luis Antonio our Bishop,
his assistant Bishops,
and all the clergy.

He takes the chalice and the paten with the host and raising both, he says:

AND WITH HIM, AND IN HIM,
O GOD, ALMIGHTY FATHER,
IN THE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT,
ALL GLORY AND HONOR IS YOURS,
FOREVER AND EVER.

The people acclaim:

Amen.

COMMUNION RITE
Presider:

A t the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching we dare


to say:

He extends his hands and, together with the people, continues:

Our Father, who art in heaven,


hallowed by thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

With hands extended, the Priest alone continues, saying:

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,


graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
He joins his hands.

The people conclude the prayer, acclaiming:

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

SIGN OF PEACE
Then the Priest, with hands extended, says aloud:

L ord Jesus Christ,


who said to your Apostles:
Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,
look not on our sins,
but on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her peace and unity
in accordance with your will.

He joins his hands.

Who live and reign forever and ever.


The people reply:

Amen.

The Priest, turned towards the people, extending and then joining his hands, adds:

The peace of the Lord be with you always.

The people reply:

And with your spirit.

Then, if appropriate, the Deacon, or the Priest, adds:

Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

And all offer one another a sign, in keeping with local customs, that expresses peace, communion, and charity.
The Priest gives the sign of peace to a Deacon or minister.
Then he takes the host, breaks it over the paten, and places a small piece in the chalice, saying quietly:

May this mingling of the Body and Blood


of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.

BREAKING OF THE BREAD
Meanwhile the following is sung or said:

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,


have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
grant us peace.
The invocation may even be repeated several times if the fraction is prolonged. Only the final time, however, is
grant us peace said.

PRIVATE PREPARATION
Then the Priest, with hands joined, says quietly:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,


who, by the will of the Father
and the work of the Holy Spirit,
through your Death gave life to the world,
free me by this, your most holy Body and Blood,
from all my sins and from every evil;
keep me always faithful to your commandments,
and never let me be parted from you.
Or:
May the receiving of your Body and Blood, Lord Jesus Christ,
not bring me to judgment and condemnation,
but through your loving mercy
be for me protection in mind and body
and a healing remedy.

COMMUNION
The Priest genuflects, takes the host and, holding it slightly raised above the paten or above the chalice, while
facing the people, says aloud:

B ehold the Lamb of God,


behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
And together with the people he adds once:

Lord, I am not worthy


that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.

The Priest, facing the altar, says quietly:

May the Body of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.

And he reverently consumes the Body of Christ.


Then he takes the chalice and says quietly:

May the Blood of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.


And he reverently consumes the Blood of Christ.
After this, he takes the paten or ciborium and approaches the communicants. The Priest raises a host slightly and
shows it to each of the communicants, saying:

The Body of Christ.

The communicant replies:

Amen.
While the Priest is receiving the Body of Christ, the Communion Chant begins.

When the distribution of Communion is over, the Priest or a Deacon or an acolyte purifies the paten over the
chalice and also the chalice itself.

While he carries out the purification, the Priest says quietly:

What has passed our lips as food, O Lord,


may we possess in purity of heart,
that what has been given to us in time
may be our healing for eternity.

Then the Priest may return to the chair. If appropriate, a sacred silence may be observed for a while, or a psalm or
other canticle of praise or a hymn may be sung.

Then, standing at the altar or at the chair and facing the people, with hands joined, the Priest says:

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Presider:

Let us pray.
Pause for silent prayer.

W aving received the food of immortality,


we ask, O Lord,
that, glorying in obedience to the commands of Christ,
the King of the universe,
we may live with him eternally in his heavenly kingdom.

Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

R: Amen.

CONSECRATION TO THE HEART OF JESUS
Lord Jesus Christ, we consecrate ourselves to You today - each one of us, and
all of us together as a family. Your Sacred Heart, the heart of Your crucified
and risen Body, is the ever-living source of mercy and grace, hope and love for
all of us. We desire to pledge ourselves and our lives to You in return. Teach
us to be always united with You through Your Holy Spirit - in mind and
heart, in all our thoughts, words, deeds, joys and sufferings. Grant us your
grace that through the power of your Paschal Mystery, we, as an individual
and as a people may move forward toward conversion and renewal in our real
lives, in our public activity, and in our endeavor to renew our society.

We wish to share in Your redeeming work in our world: that Your Father’s
will may truly be done on earth as it is in heaven. May our every thought and
desire, word and deed each day be such that it is an oblation, an offering to
God our Father, in accordance with His holy will. Heart of Jesus, help us to
keep sin away from our lives that we may undergo Conversion that begins
with our turning to the Lord and to our brothers and sisters and “daily dying
to ourselves.”

We seek Your Heart dear Lord so that by keeping our hearts close to Yours, our
nation may be built up, with the grace of the Holy Spirit as a true community
of Filipinos one in heart with Jesus and Mary, one in longing and
labor for the coming of the Kingdom of God.

Through this Renewal, Offering and Conversion, and journey to the Kingdom
we renew our Consecration to Your Sacred Heart, together with the Immaculate
Heart of Mary for the greater glory of our Father in Heaven.
Amen.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, be with us and bless us now and at the hour of our
death. Amen.
