Level 3 Extended Diploma Unit 8

Alice Roberts

Date issued: 5th April 2022

Final deadline: Friday 10th June 2022
Competition
For my final project I have paired up with
Anouska Hall to create a music video.
We will be contesting in an international music video competition
created by the company FilmFreeway, called International Music Video
Underground. We chose to enter this contest which promotes new 'up-
and-coming artists', because they have a wide range of categories that
we are able to compete in - best music video, best cinematography, best
editor, best student music video, best cover song, best short film (related
to music) and much more. This particular contest is known to have a
fair, inclusive selective strategies of who is chosen to continue in the
competition until a winner is chosen, they haven’t got any rules and
regulations other that the date we have to hand in our final project

We will enter the category named 'best student music video'. The idea
that me and Anouska chose to create is about a toxic couple that brake
up and the audience would then watch the main character find her
happiness when she spends time without him. We are creating this
music video to make our audience feel uplifted and inspired to take
different directions in their life which we will achieve by making sure
our storyline is clear, and that the visuals in the production tell the story
that relate to the song and intensify the emotion in the song, we chose
‘Dark Red’ by Steve Lacy
Briefing of idea
Anouska and myself are going to make a music video filmed to the song
‘Dark Red’ by Steve Lacy targeted to towards the age range of 16-25. The
storyline of this music video will be cantered on a toxic couple and the
audience will watch how quickly the
relationship got co-dependant and
then spiralled into a ‘toxic
relationship’. The audience then sees
the main female role is able escape the
relationship in order to live a healthy
life individually.

This music video will express to the

audience that toxic relationships create a lot of harm and extremally
little good. The music video also highlights how friends are extremally
important and we need to surround ourselves with people that want the
best for others, that will support your transitions/challenges in life and
will look out for one another. We hope that the audience will take away
inspiration from out music video to be direct and not to excuse toxic
behaviour which is a vital message that our demographic needs to
follow.

Legal And Ethical Issues

With a narrative that can be

sensitive to many, comes a lot of
both legal and ethical issues. Some
issues that could be involved is to
promote these toxic relationships
when really, we are hoping to do
the opposite. An individual could
watch the video and think that the
toxic characters behaviour is
acceptable and treat others this
way, we will include a caption on the video explaining that it isn’t
acceptable and links for those that believe they may be toxic and want to
change or that are involved with a toxic person and how they should
approach leaving them. Anouska and my music video could be
interpreted as a sensitive subject so we will include a warning to viewers
in the caption so we don’t upset anyone. We hope that out music video
will express our message clearly and
include advice and useful sites for those struggling.

Production Schedule

Anouska and myself created a production schedule to help us without

time management since we have a deadline to enter the competition and
for out collage Corse. We created this together because we will be
producing the music video together so cooperation is important in order
to meet the deadline with a piece that is to our best standard.
