General Instructions:
1. The Question Paper contains three sections.
2. Section A has 7 questions of 2 marks each.
3. Section B has 6 questions of 3 marks each.
4. Section C has 2 questions of 4 marks each.
SECTION A
1. What is meant by isomers? Draw the structure of two isomers of butane. Explain
why we cannot have isomers of first three members of alkene series.
2. What were the limitations of Newlands law of octaves?
3. How does binary fission differ from multi fission?
4. What are dominant and recessive traits?
5. An electric bulb is rated 220 V and 100 W . When it is operated on 110 V, the
power consumed will be.
6. What is an electromagnet? List any two uses.
7. What will happen if we kill all the organisms in one tropic level?
SECTION B
14. State the principle, construction and working of the electric motor?
15. Asexual reproduction can be seen in protozoans, sponges, coelenterates, certain
worms and tunicate. It is not found in higher invertebrates and vertebrates.
Leishmania is a unicellular protozoan. It is a parasite which causes the disease
known as kala-azar. It has whip-like structure called flagellum at its one end of
the cell. It reproduces by the process of binary fission. In such organisms, the
splitting of the parent cell during fission (or cell division) takes place in a definite
plane with respect to the flagellum at its end.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions.
(1) What are clones?
(2) Would a Planaria cut vertically into two halves generate into two individuals?
(3) Can you consider cell division as a type of reproduction in unicellular
organism? Give one reason.
(4) Name two simple organisms having the ability of regeneration.
