OBJECTIVES
At the end of a 60-minute period, all of the grade 8 students should at least attain
80% level of proficiency and should be able to:
a. Define and illustrate congruent triangles;
b. Label the triangles based on their congruent parts; and
c. Give examples of congruency in real life.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Triangle Congruence

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Daily Routine
1. Greetings
Good afternoon class!
2. Prayer
Before we start, can you lead the
prayer, Angelica.
Amen.
3. Checking of Attendance
Is there anyone absent today, Ms.
Secretary?
Very good! No one is absent.

B. Motivation
Before we start with our lesson for
today, let’s play a game first called
“Find my Pair”.
In this game, you will have to find
each of its pair by picking two
numbers from the pocket.
Yes, sir!
Are you ready?
(Presenting the game)

Who’s going to try first? Yes, Number 2 and 7, sir.

Angelica.
Okay, let’s see if that is the right pair.
It seems you’re wrong. Who else? Yes Number 1 and 7, sir.
Radney, go ahead.

Let’s see if it’s correct. What a nice

guess. You’re correct!
Number 2 and 5, sir.
Next. Who wants to try? Yes Jeff!

Okay. Let’s see again. It’s correct!

Number 3 and 8, sir.
You boys are great! How about the
girls? Yes Cheska!

Let’s check if it’s correct. Correct!

Number 4 and 10, sir.
Now, we only have four unknown
figures left. Who wants to try too?
Yes, Mary Joy!

Let’s check again. It’s correct!

Since we only have one figures. I’ll be Yes, sir.

the one to pick, of course, they are
matched!
Did you enjoy?

Review

Okay class. Let’s have a review first

before we proceed with our lesson. Yes, sir.
You’re already aware what triangle is
It’s a 2-dimensional figure with three sides,
right?
three vertices, and three angles.
Anyone who can give the definition of a
triangle?
Yes, sir!
Very good!

Do you still know how to name a

triangle?

Okay, let’s try again. I have a triangle

here.

F
q
jQ

J Triangle QFJ
Q f

What is the name of this triangle? Vertices: Point Q, Point F, and Point J
Jeff? Angles: ∠Q, ∠F, and ∠J
Okay. Very good. Sides: side j/side QF, side f/side QJ, side
q/side FJ
How about its parts?

Very good!

C. Lesson Proper
Triangle Congruence, sir!
Now class, base from our activity a
while ago, and from the recalled topic,
you can see that our lesson for today is
Two triangles are congruent if their vertices
all about? What?
can be paired so that corresponding sides and
Very good! Now, what is triangle corresponding angles are congruent.
congruence? Will you read, Cheska.

Thank you.

We have here the following signs that

we are going to use in this topic.

≅ - congruent sign
AB – line segment
∠ - angle sign
Δ – triangle sign

Let’s have an example so that you will

understand better what congruent is.

N
5
10 Yes, sir.
A
D 15 5 5
Their sides are all congruent.
Are these triangles congruent?

They are congruent because?

Yes! ΔDAN is congruent to ΔTOM,

because all of their corresponding Side DN ≅ Side TM
sides are equal. Side DA ≅ Side TO
Side NA ≅ Side MO
Can you enumerate the corresponding
sides that are equal? Yes, Rogelio?

That’s correct!

How about these triangles?

Yes, sir!

Their corresponding angles are congruent.

Are they congruent?

∠X ≅ ∠ C
Why? Why they are congruent?
∠Y ≅ ∠ D
Yes! That’s right! ∠Z ≅ ∠ E
Can you name the corresponding
angles? Yes, Elmer?

Very good!

And for the last one,

No, sir.

Their corresponding sides and angles are not

Are these triangles congruent? congruent.

Why are these triangles not

congruent?

Very good! And because if you try to

put the triangle to the other one, their
vertices will not be paired.

Now, let us label the triangles based

on their corresponding parts.
ΔMON ≅ ΔTVU

From the figure ΔMON and ΔTVU,

the sides marked with one line are
equal in length. Similarly, for the sides
marked with two lines. Also, for the
sides marked with three lines.

The angles marked with one arc are

equal in size. The same goes with the
angles marked with two and three
arcs.

I’ll give you an example and I want

you to label the corresponding sides of
the triangles.

Who wants to try? Yes, Angelica.

How about the angles? Yes, Cheska.

Yes! Very good! Thank you.

Side EF ≅ Side WN
Side FG ≅ Side NO
Now, take a look at these labeled
Side EG ≅ Side WO
congruent triangles and enumerate the
∠E≅∠W
corresponding parts.
∠F≅∠N
∠G≅∠O
IV. EVALUATION

Direction: Determine whether the triangles are congruent or not. If it is congruent, enumerate
their corresponding parts.
